Exposition
Samuel, the main character, is introduced. We learn he lives in the woods with his parents. -
Conflict
Samuel is out hunting bear in the woods. He goes farther than he ever has before. Then he smells a fire and runs all the way home. When he gets back to his cabin, he finds that his parents have been kidnapped and his cabin is burned to the ground. Samuel then decides to track his parents and rescue them. -
Rising Action
Samuel trachs his parents to a British camp and he is able to see them. As he is about to try and rescue them he hears a noise. It is an Indian. He gets his rifle ready and shoots, but as he shoots the Indian hits him in the head with a tomahawk. The Indian is killed and Samuel is unconscious for a week and he loses his parents again -
Turning Point
Samuel figures out that his parents are in New York and heads straight there which is about an eighty mile walk. There he meets Annie and Abner. -
Falling Action
Samuel, with the help of Abner, finally rescues his parents. After he rescues them, Abner tells Samuel that they are still in the danger. He tells Samuel to go to Philadelphia where they will be safe from the British. They go and live there in peace for three years. -
Resolution
The British invade Philadelphia. Samuel, being sixteen, decides to join the army to help defeat the British army. He does not fight, but he does send messages and help the wounded soldiers.
