The first major mistake was offering a specific sacrifice. It was Samuel's job, as a Levite and a priest, but with the other army fast approaching, and his men being terrified and deserting him, he offered it anyways. If he had waited less than a day more, he would have been fine.

After God had left Saul, he tormented Saul. Saul asked for someone that would help him calm down, and David was brought to him. David was an excellent harp player and God was with him. Because of this, whenever Saul was being tormented David played the harp for him and he calmed down. -

One day Jesse (David's father) told him to bring supplies to his brothers who were fighting in a war. When he got there the giant goliath was mocking the people of Israel and daring one of them to come fight him. He said that the winner would become the master of the losers. David volunteered to go against him and after some debate and armor rejection later, he did. He, of course, won. It was a crushing defeat the Philistines that day. -

The second major sin that Saul committed was disobeying God by failing to completely destroy the Amalekites and all their possessions. God had commanded him to 'utterly destroy' them. But he saved some of the best animals and the king. When Samuel confronted him, he lied and said that he'd saved them for sacrifices. -

After the sins that saul had committed, Samuel told Saul that the Lord had rejected him. He also told him that God would anoint a 'man after God's own heart' to take his place and Saul's sins would be told all over Israel. After all that had happened with Saul, his death was kind of a disappointment. In a battle with the Philistines, they were fast approaching. Saul didn't want to be killed by them so he committed suicide on his own sword, the philistines took his body. -

After saul died, David was anointed king. During Saul's reign, Saul had continuously chased after David with the intent to kill him. He was jealous because the people really liked David, and David had been winning many battles. But as soon as Saul died, David still mourned after him. Especially after he learned Jonathan (saul's son) had been killed as well. -

Consequences
Because David had done this horrible thing to his best friend, there were, of course, consequences. A prophet came to David and told him a story about a pet sheep. David was furius and said the man deserve death. THe prophet then revealed that David WAS this man. David went into a state of dread. He repented and cried to the Lord, and the Lord decided to spare him. Instead of him dying, his and Bathsheba's son died. -

One day, while the rest of his army was out fighting, David was out on his roof top. Down below he saw a beautiful woman taking a bath. After inquiring about her, he found out that she was the wife of one of his best friends. He called her to the palace and committed adultery with her. Soon, he got a letter saying that she was pregnant. David brought the husband home and tried to stage it as it have been the husband but failed every time. Eventually he just killed the husband. -

David's second sin was counting his people. Someone had made a covenant with God, promising that they wanted take a census of the people. The problem with this is that if he knew how many people he had in his army, he would be confident in his army. He would put faith in his big army and not on god. He knew he wasn't supposed to do it, and directly after he had done it he felt remorse. -

He thanked God by giving him sacrifices in the morning. -
