WEEK 3 - TIMELINE ERNEST MACH

By keeb
  • BIRTH DAY

MR MACH was born February 18th 1838 in Chirlitz-Turas, Moravia, Austrian Empire. He would play a major role in optics, mechanics and wave dynamics development.
  • RECIEVED DOCTORATE IN PHYSICS

Mach started school in homeschool, when he turned 14 he went to high school until he went to college. He attended the University of Vienna. He received his degree in Physics, After he graduated he stuck around and taught Mechanics and physics until 1864.
  • MACH BANDS

Mach discovered mach bands. Which is a optical illusion that creates a shadow where darker objects next to lighter objects will appear lighter and vice versa. https://radiopaedia.org/articles/mach-bands?lang=us
  • Became professor of Mathematics at the university of Graz

During his time here he continued to study. Mach helped further prove the doppler effect was real with a simple apparatus. Due to his experiment at the University of Vienna he was offered a spot as the professor of mathematics at Graz. While at Graz he discovered physiological optical illusion to be know as Machs's bands. During his time here he grew interest into physiology and psychology. • CHAIR OF EXPERIMENTAL PHYSICS

In 1867 Mach would take on the responsibilities of the Chair of Experimental Physics at Charles University. He stayed there for 28 years. During this time he published many scientific papers. Major discoveries were "Mach Number and Mach Angle". https://www.famousscientists.org/ernst-mach
  • MACH NUMBER

Mach developed high speed photographic techniques to photograph the shadow of invisible shock waves Machs love for physics helped him focus on the different ways light acted under different influences, he was able to correctly describe effects in sound during a projectiles super sonic motion and its cone shape during vortex, which helped create the formula which is called a Mach number. He Also discovered the non acoustic function that kept human Balance.
  • Machs Principle

Machs principles hypothesis states "inertial forces experienced by a body in nonuniform motion are determined by the quantity and distribution of matter in the universe." https://www.britannica.com/science/machs-principle

  • Mach's Philosophical beliefs

In philosophy Mach is best known for influence upon the Vienna circle. Einstein credited Mach as being the philosophical forerunner of relativity theory. He studied the relationship of our sensations to our stimuli.
He was thought to have bridged the gap of divide between science and philosophy and is thought to be the creator. https://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/ernst_mach

  • University of Vienna

In 1895 Mach went back to Vienna as the professor of inductive philosophy. He would retire in 1901.
  • Retired from active research

Mach would serve in Austrian parliament and continue to follow his love for knowledge. He would be known for reforming. he heavily influenced the left.
  • Death Day

Ernst Mach Lived a successful life. His discovering's helped forge different scientists and help influence books due to his ideology.
