Age 11
At age 11 he made his first investment, buying three shares of Cities Service Preferred at $38 a share. The stock then dropped to $27 but he held onto it until it reached $40. He then sold it for a small profit and when the share went up to $200 he regretted it. -
Business
By age 13, Buffett was running his business as a paperboy and selling his own horse racing tip sheet. -
Higher Education
Enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania at the age of 16 to study business. He stayed two years, moved to the University of Nebraska to finish his degree, and emerged from college at age 20 with $10,000 from his childhood businesses. -
Influence
Influenced by Benjamin Graham's 1949 book, Buffett enrolled at Columbia business school to study under the acclaimed economist investor. After earning his master's degree in 1951, he sold securities to Buffett-Falk & Company for three years, then worked as a mentor. -
Partenership
In 1956, Buffett formed the firm Buffett Partnership Ltd. in his hometown of Omaha. He was successful in identifying undervalued companies and became a millionaire. -
Business Empire
Following Berkshire Hathaway's significant investment in Coca-Cola, Buffett became director of the company from 1989 until 2006. He also served as director of Citigroup Global Market Holdings. -
Recent Activity
In 2006 Buffett announced that he would be giving his entire fortune away to charity, committing 85% of it to the Bill and Melinda Gates foundations. This donation became the largest charitable act ever. -
Cancer
In 2012 Buffett announced he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He began undergoing treatment in July, and successfully completed treatment in November. -
Launched
Buffett launched Drive2Vote, a website in encouraging people from Nebraska community to encourage their right to vote - and to insist in registering and driving voters to the pull.
