    Birth of Victor Jara
    Victor Jara was born on September 28th, 1932 in Lonquen, Chile. He was Born to Amanda Martinez(mother), and Manuel Jara(father). He was raised in Poverty by his farmer father and his folk singing mother. He had two sisters, Maria Jara, and Georgina Jara, fallowing with two brothers, Lalo Jara, and Roberto Jara. He and his older sibling chopped down trees with an axe while his mother collected herbs to sell.

    A few years later, his father created injury in his family, with alcohol abuse, and violence, which created little positive thoughts of his childhood. He grew up with little money, though in the mess of his father, his mother’s folk music was something to look forward to, and could have been a spark of his future.

    Victor Jara's mother, Amanda Jara, passes away when he was only 15. This caused trouble for Victor, but he found help and confidence from a priest. He enjoyed the music that was played and sang, but he was not cut out for priesthood. He quit in 1952.

    He quit school to study and prepare for the priesthood, although he later canceled his studies to join the army, where he served for a year before being discharged. Moving on, he then persuaded a theater study at the University of Chile. After graduation, he set off of having a stage director occupation.

    A carrer of singing took off after finding great inspiration from Violetta Perra. He met Violetta, known for being a Chilian Composter, and a folk singer, in 1957, and began to drift off into the folk song singing path. Later, he realeised his first album in 1966, which was only the start of his journey.

    In 1960, he was happily married to Joan Jara. Joan Jara is a British-chilian dancer, but after her husband's death, she began to feel the need to carry on what was lost, his work, his values, and the memory of him. Joan and he were married for 13 long, happy years until his death, but even then she continued to see him as a leader.

    Victor Jara had 4 children, Amanda Jara, Manuela Jara, Roberto Jara, and Eduardo Jara. None of his children had children, meaning the only descendants he has are his children, siblings, and his wife.

    Fallowing his albujm, marched in rightly recieved recordings including, pongo en tus manos( 1969 June), El derecho de vivir en paz in 1971, and La poblacion. His fame soon rocketed, and Chile was growing more fond of his work, which resulted his work dotting around the world. In no time, his hard work was put in mind of folk singers

    In 1973, his song “Venceremos”, was gifted the oppertunity to become the theme song for Allende’s pollitical party. This oppertunity was a start of something that he could have never imagined. His work hit Chile with great impact, sending oppertunitys flying his way.
  • Murder of Victor Jara Part 2

    With great pride, he got up and played “Venceremos”, which followed by a gun pointed to his head. He had been shot and murdered in the stadium. After eight of the Chilean officers retired, they were sentenced 18 years in prison and were found guilty of the murder of Victor Jara.
  • Murder of Victor Jara Part One

    Victor Lidio Jara Martinez was shot and killed. It was September 11th, 1973 in a Football(soccer) stadium. He and thousands were arrested by Pinochet’s forces and were held imprisoned in the stadium. He was beaten by the guards, and they smashed all of his fingers. Once they did so, the guards mocked him and told him to play a song on his guitar for his fellow prison mates.

    Today, we see the work done from Victor Jara, as a national Cihlean icon. HIs work is alive and sringing with action, and his fame and the memory of him will last for a long time.
