Timeline 1 - Ernst Mach

  • Mach's Birth.

    Born in Moravia which is in present day Czech Republic.
  • Mach's Formal Education Begins.

    After receiving his education to the age of 14 from his parents, Mach began attending gymnasium (advance school) where he studied for three years.
  • Mach's Professional Career Begins.

    After earning his doctorate in 1860, Mack accepted a position as Professor of Mathematics at the University of Graz. Later in 1866 he was appointed Professor of Physics. In 1867 he became the chair of Experimental Physics at the University of Charles where he stayed for 28 years.
  • Mach's Contributions To Science.

    Mach's best known contributions came in physics with his photographs of shock waves. He also is credited in physiology with the discovery of the inner ear function relating to balance. Philosophically he believed only that which could be sensed was real, famously saying in 1897 "I don't believe atoms exist."
  • Mach's Death.
