Kenny goes to Collier's Landing with his family. Kenny splits up with his family on purpose to swim in a dangerous area of the Lake, he almost gets killed by "Wool Pooh", Whinnie the Pooh's Evil brother.

The 16th Street Baptist Church bombing was an act of white supremacist terrorism which occurred at the African-American 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama on Sunday, September 15, 1963, when four members of the Ku Klux Klan planted a minimum of 15 sticks of dynamite attached to a timing device beneath the front steps of the church. In The Watsons go to Birmingham, Lenny (The Main Character) thinks that his younger sister was there when the bomb exploded.

After when Kenny gets home from the trip he hides behind the family couch by the TV, he hopes to become heathly from being behind the couch, random animals come to his house and get better from being behind the couch, like they are healed.
