Holden fails four out of his five classes and gets kicked out of Pencey. He also decides that he needs to get away for awhile, especailly because he did not want his parents to find out about his grades. -
Conflict
Holden Caulfield has difficulty understanding the world of maturity. Although he is trying to fit into the adult world, Holden thinks of it as "phony". He tries to keep everything to himself at all times. -
Rising Action
Holden decides to move to New York, away from everything he has encountered at Pencey. His encounters changed the way he wanted Pencey to be like. Like leaving the tennis equipment on the train, Ackley bothering him, and Stradlater going on a date with his childhood love. -
Turning Point
After running away, the new encounters that Holden faces made him think about his life, the sexual encounter with a prosititute, trying to get Sally to run away with him, and missing his little sister. Holden also questions himself about criticizing the people around him after talking to Mr. Antolini. -
Fallling Action
Holden gets in contact with his little sister Phoebe and told her that he is running away. Being the stubborn little girl she is, Phoebe tried to tag along with Holden.This impacted the way Holden felt before he was about to leave everything behind. -
Resolution
After talking with Pheobe, Holden decides that moving is impossible. He did not want to leave his sister behind, since she is only ten. Holden took the chance to grow up right instead of growing up into a mature man hastily.
