He was an absolute monarch. He centralised the government of Spain. He abolished the traditional laws (fueros). He suffered from depression and remained obsessed with recovering territory in Europe. -
Fernando VI's reign
He was an absolute monarch. He maintained a position of neutrality in external conflicts. His reign was a period of administrative reform. -
Carlos III's reign
He was an enlightened despot King. He brought many ideas of the Enlightenment to Spain. He modernised the economy, did educational reforms, founded factories... He did many changes to Madrid city: sewage system, new buildings. -
Carlos IV's reign
His wife and his valido, Godoy, governed in his name. He was deposed by Napoleon.
