    Ted Bundy was born in Burlington, Vermont to Eleanor Cowell (image) and Johnny Bundy on November 24, 1946. He grew up to be a charming, articulate, and intelligent young man.
  • Juvenile Record

    He had an extensive juvenile record for theft, but it was dismissed by 1964 when he turned 18. Also, he was recalled to be antisocial and wandered the streets looking for pornography or open windows to spy on unaware women.

    In February of 1974, Bundy abducted Lynda Ann Healy, 21, (image) from the University of Washington. He strangled her to death. He went on and kidnapped and murdered Donna Gail Manson, 19, from Evergreen State College in Olympia in March. Bundy kidnapped and murdered Susan Elaine Rancourt, 18, at Central Washington University in Ellensburg in April. In May of that year, he abducted Roberta "Kathy" Parks, 20, from Oregan State University. He raped and murdered her at Taylor Mountain in Washington.

    He abducted Brenda Carol Ball, 22, in Burien, Washington on June 1, 1974.

    On June 11, 1974, Bundy kidnapped and killed Georgeann Hawkins, 18, (image) from the University District of Seattle. He knocked her unconscious and killed her after asking for help taking a briefcase to his car. Later, in July, on a beautiful summer day, Bundy abducted and murders two girls, Jan Ott, 23, and Denise Naslund, 19, from Lake Sammamish with many witnesses around. Police began to identify his method of appearing to need assistance to lure his victims in.

    On October 18, 1974, Bundy abducted, raped and strangled Melissa Smith, 17, from Midvale, Utah.

    Bundy kidnapped, raped and murdered Laura Ann Aime, 17, from Lehi, Utah on October 31, 1974.

    Attempted and Eleventh Victim
    On November 8, 1974, he posed as a police officer and attempted to kidnap Carol DaRonch, 18, at the Fashion Place Mall in Murray, Utah. Later that day, Debra Kent, 17, (image) disappeared.

    In January of 1975, Bundy kidnapped Caryn Campbell, 23, from the Wildwood Inn in Snowmass, Colorado. She died from blunt force trauma.

    Bundy kidnapped and murdered ski instructor Julie Cunningham, 26, (image) from Vail, Colorado on March 15, 1975. He also killed Denise Lynn Oliverson, 24, from Grand Junction, Colorado in April. In May, Bundy kidnapped and drowned Lynette Dawn Culver, 12, in a bathtub. He abducted and murdered Susan Curtis, 15, when she was attending the Bountiful Orchard Youth Conference at Brigham Young University in June.
  • Arrests

    Bundy was arrested in Utah after a chase by a high way patrol officer on August 16, 1975. Police found handcuffs, masks, gloves, rope, and a crowbar in his car. He was released on bail the next day. In October, Bundy was identified on line-up by Carol DaRonch (image) and arrested and charged with the aggravated kidnapping and attempted criminal assault. He was held in Salt Lake County Jail.
  • Trial

    On March 1, 1976, Bundy was found guilty of aggravated kidnapping and sentenced to a minimum of one to a maximum of 15 years in Utah state prison. He was charged with the murder of Caryn Campbell that October.

    Since Bundy assisted his own defense in his case, he was allowed access to the county's jailhouse law library, where he jumped out a window from the second story in June. However, he was caught days later and by June 15, 1977, he was charged with scape, burglary and felony theft.

    In December of 1977, Bundy escaped his jail cell through a light fixture in the ceiling. The next month in January of 1978, he arrived in Tallahassee, Florida. On the fifteenth of the month, Bundy severely beat and strangled Margaret Bowman (image) and Lisa Levy in the Chi Omega sorority house near Florida State University. Two other women were bludgeoned while sleeping, but survived with fatal injuries. Shortly after, he attacked Cheryl Thomas, but she luckily survived.
  • Last Victim

    Bundy's last murder took place on February 9, 1978. He kidnapped and killed Kimberly Leach, 12. She was a student and disappeared during the midde of the school day.
  • Last Arrest

    Bundy was finally arrested on February 15, 1978, for the last time after a policeman noticed a suspicious car loitering and erratically driving. The car was stolen, and Bundy refused arrest and to give his name, but the policeman overpowered him and eventually arrested him. At the police station, Bundy gave a fake ID and claimed to be an FSU student named Kenneth. By the seventeenth, he revealed his true identity.
  • Final Charges

    On July 24, 1978, Bundy was found guilty of murdering Levy and Bowman, and the attempted murders of the two women from Chi Omega and Thomas. He was sentenced to death. By February of the next year, he was found guilty of Leach's kidnapping and murder, as well.

    Bundy confessed to murdering over 30 people in multiple states between 1973 and 1978. He finally was strapped to the electric chair on January 24, 1989.
