    Was a french sociologist, who is known as the father of sociology. He is known for his techniques to prevent personal biases in research and he translated Positive Philosophy. Comte was a major influence on 19th century thought, eventually influencing many other sociologists. Positivism is a philosophical theory stating that positive knowledge is based on natural phenomena.

    Harriet Martineau

    -Was a English social reformer who introduced feminism. She wrote many books in her lifetime with a variety of perspectives. She also translated works from Auguste Comte. She had great support and was even invited to the Queen's coronation.

    Karl Marx was a German sociologist. He was born in the middle class and as an adult worked in class conflict in social change. He lived a lot of his life in London and published several works most know being the Communist pamphlet in 1848.

    Emile Durkheim

    Emile Durkheim was a French sociologist who with Karl Marx and Max Weber is commonly known as the principal architect of modern social science and father of sociology. Durkheim's work was concerned with how societies could maintain their integrity and coherence in modernity. His first major work was The Division of labour in Society in 1893. He refined positivism by Auguste Comte and went on to remain a powerful figure in French intellectual life.

    Jane Addams

    Jane Addams was an American woman who at the time was a social worker but made great strives in sociology. Addams was a stronger fighter for women's suffrage and eventually won a noble peace prize. She was one of the most prominent reformers of the Progressive Era highlighting issues that were greatly emphasized by mothers.

    Max Weber

    Max Weber was a German sociologist who studied rationalization. His ideas influenced social theory and social research. He like Comte, is cited as one of the founding fathers of sociology. Weber intertwined economic sociology and the sociology of religion in his book The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. He claimed that ascetic Protestantism was one of the major "elective affinities" associated with the Western world of market-driven capitalism and the rational-legal nation-state.

    W.E.B. Dubois

    Dubois was an American sociologist who was a part of the PAN African movement. He also was engaged in the social structure of African American communities. He was also a co-founder of NAACP in 1909. To add, Dubois was a prolific author, with a collection of essays like The Souls of Black folks.
