The Pit and the Pendulum (event 1)
A guy wakes up in a room he doesn´t know. After speculating a bit about the place he was and taunting the ground, he determined he was underground and in a circular room. Also, the last thing he remembered is being in Toledo, Spain and that a couple of guys were making some questions to him. -
The Pit and the Pendulum (event 2)
After sleep, the protagonist of the story finds out that someone had left food and water in the floor. Then, after crawling, he realised that there were a pit in the middle of the room. The second time he woke up, he was tied up to a wooden bed and nothing but a dish full of inedible meat by his side. When he looked up, he saw a painting of the Time with an hourglass and a long, sharp scythe. But the blade was real. -
The Pit and the Pendulum (event 3)
The blade was like a pendulum, and suddenly it started moving slowly. While that happened, a group of rats climbed up the pit. As the pendulum was going faster, it was going down, so eventually it would kill our protagonist. To avoid this, he rubbed the meat in the rope so the rats would bite it. The pendulum ended up cutting the rope, so he escaped, but for the horror of our protagonist, the walls were getting hotter, so he would have to jump in the pit to survive. -
The Pit and the Pendulum (event 4)
After a quick thinking, he was in the edge of the pit while the room was getting very hot, when he heard the sound of guns above. The walls were going back, but it was too late and he was already falling. Suddenly a man held his arm and pulled him back. It was a French soldier, they had captured Toledo. The prisoners were free. -
The gold bug (event 1)
A guy starts talking about an old friend of him, William Legrand. He lived on Sullivan´s Island. He was very rich, but he lost it all. He didn´t have any family neither, he lived with his servant Jupiter. Our protagonist often visited Legrand, and they talked about books or animals. One day in October he went to visit him, but there was no one at home. -
The gold bug (event 2)
Legrand had found an unusual bug, but he didn´t show it to our protagonist, he draw a picture of it instead. Jupiter said that the bug was made of gold, but Legrand dind´t believe that, and they observed that the patterns in the back of the bug were making a skull. When he put the paper near the fire, some red letter suddenly appeared. Legrand just keept looking at them and shuted up for the rest of the day. After a month, Jupiter went to see our protagonist to tell him that Legrand was sick. -
The gold bug (event 3)
When our protagonist arrived to the house, Legrand showed him the gold bug, and he said he studied the bug and the paper, wich he found in a boat next to the bug. He realised that the red letter in the paper and the patterns in the bug made a map, and they went to a very faraway tree which was full of trees. Jupiter climbed to a tree by petition of Legrand, he said that he had to climb to the seventh branch. Jupiter found a human skull up there and Legrand told him to put the gold bug in it. -
The gold bug (event 4)
The skull fell down, and then Legrand said that they had to measure fifty feets from the tree and dig there. They found a box with an incredible treasure in it. After 2 journeys to the island, they carried it all to Legrand´s house. Legrand told them that the insructions to all of that were in the paper they found, but it only showed up close to the fire and it was cripted. The paper told a story about a pirate that left a treasure in the place they went. And now they had the treasure. -
The facts in the case of Mr Valdemar (event 1)
Our protagonist is a scientist and a hypnotist. Mr Ernest Valdemar is a scientist too, and he liked our protagonist and the hypnotism thing. Specially an idea they had about hypnotism and death. Mr Valdemar was very ill and he was going to die, so he wanted to be hypnotized before he died to avoid the pain. One day a letter from Mr Valdemar came, and in it he said that his moment had come. -
The facts in the case of Mr Valdemar (event 2)
Mr Valdemar was in his bed, he was very thin and his skin was pale. He said to our protagonist that he wanted to be hypnotized already, that he was gonna die soon. He hypnotized him, After a while he died, but when he was dead, he started to talk. He only said that he was dead now, and nothing more. The doctor came the next morning, and he said that he could not sign the death certificate because he couldn´t say he was dead. -
The facts in the case of Mr Valdemar (event 3)
Day after day, the doctor kept saying the same. He wasn´t dead even though he didn´t breath, but his body did not change. After 7 months, our protagonist decided that he would end the hypnotize. Once he did that, Mr Valdemar´s body just dissapeared, leaving behing a pool of yellow liquid and bones.
