    His childhood

    He was born and raised in the "El Mondongo" neighborhood of La Plata,
    Argentina. Since he was a boy he learned to love football, and
    made a fanatic fan of the Gymnastics and Fencing Club La
    Silver. René Favaloro was always committed to
    the knowledge, thanks in part to his maternal grandmother,
    who transmitted his love for nature and emotion
    by seeing when the seeds began to bear fruit.

    In 1936, he entered the National College of La Plata. To the
    finishing high school he entered the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the

    The fundamental fact of his professional training was his position as resident in the
    Polyclinic Hospital.

    Coronary bypass

    At the beginning of 1967, Favaloro began to think about the possibility of using the vein
    saphenous in coronary surgery. He put his ideas into practice for the first time in May
    this year. The standardization of this technique, called bypass surgery or
    myocardial revascularization, was the fundamental work of his career, which made
    its prestige transcended the limits of that country, since the procedure changed
    radically the history of coronary disease.

    Creation of the Favaloro Foundation

    In 1971 he returned to Argentina with the dream of developing a
    excellence similar to that of the Cleveland Clinic, combining medical care,
    research and education.
    With this objective in mind, he created the Favaloro Foundation in 1975 together with other collaborators.
    One of his greatest prides was to have formed more than four hundred and fifty
    residents from all over Argentina and Latin America

    More of his creations

    In 1980 Favaloro created the Basic Research Laboratory -al which he financed with
    own money for a long period - which, at that time, depended on the
    Research and Teaching Department of the Favaloro Foundation. With
    Later, it became the Research Institute in Basic Sciences of the Institute
    University of Biomedical Sciences, which, in turn, gave rise, in August 1998, to the
    creation of the Favaloro University.

    Cardiovascular of the Favaloro Foundation, They provide services

    pulmonary, cardiopulmonary, liver, kidney and bone marrow, in addition to other areas.
    Favaloro concentrated his work there, surrounded by a select group of professionals.
