    Leibniz was born on July 1st, 1646 in the Holy Roman Empire.
  • Baptism

    Just two days after his birth he was baptized.
  • Father's Library

    Just a year after his father passed away, who was a professor at the University of Leipzig. Leibniz inherited his father's library, in which he began studying philosophical and theological works.
  • Began his College Education

    Leibniz began college at his father's University at the age of 15.
  • Bachelor's Degree

    Leibniz earned his Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy.
  • Wrote First Book / Doctorate in Law

    In 1666, Leibniz wrote his first book, "De Arte Combinatoria", at the age of 19. He also received his doctorate to practice law during this year.
  • Off to Paris

    In 1672 Leibniz went to Paris, where he met Christiaan Huygens, who helped Leibniz perform a self-study which eventually elevated him into making huge mathematical contributions to integral calculus.
  • Discovery of Calculus

    Leibniz noted that he discovered a breakthrough in calculus on November 11th, 1675. He had discovered the use of integral calculus to find the area under the curve y = f(x).
  • First Calculus Publication

    It wasn't until the year 1684 that Leibniz published his first paper on Calculus. It was the publication of, "Nova methodus pro maximis et minimis." Which included a new way of solving for maximums and minimums.
  • Leibniz Death

    Leibniz passed away in the year 1716 in Hanover.
