Abraham Lincoln
Abraham passed the Emancipation Proclamation which freed the blacks from slavery. He was from the Republican party. He was assasinated at a play by John Wilkes Booth. Later was replaced with Andrew Johnson. -
Ulysses S. Grant
Grant was apart of the military force in the Civil War. Grant was also a Republican. He was the first president to have both of his parents alive when he entered office. Ulysses served two terms in office. -
James Garfield
James Garfield was a Republican. Garfiled served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He got shot by Charles J. Guiteau. Garfiled was only in office for six months. -
Grover Cleveland
He served two terms in office during his presidency. Cleveland was a Democrat. He became a lecturer and member of the Board of Trustees of Princeton University. Cleveland died on June 24, 1808 of heart failure. -
William McKinley
McKinley served from 1861 until 1865 in the Twenty-third Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He saw action at Antietam where he was promoted to second lieutenant for valor. He is a Republican. -
Theodore Roosevelt
In 1882, Roosevelt became the youngest member of the New York State Assembly. He is a Republican. Roosevelt joined the U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment which became known as the Rough Riders to fight in the Spanish-American War. -
William Taft
Taft was important for continuing Roosevelt's antitrust actions. In 1909, the Payne-Aldrich Tariff Act passed. This changed the tariff rates from 46 to 41%. It upset both the Democrats and the progressive Republicnas who felt that it was just a token change. He is a Republican. -
Woodrow Wilson
Some important bills were passed during his presidency like Seventeenth Amendment ratified calling for direct election of Senators,Federal Reserve Act,Clayton Anti-Trust Act. He was a Democrat. He also served in office for 2 terms. -
Warren Harding
He ony served one term in office. He died of a heart attack. Harding officially opposed entry into the League of Nations. Also, World War I was formally ended by joint resolution during his presidency. -
Calvin Coolidge
He served two terms in office. He finished out Harding's term after the president's death and then was reelected to a second term. There were some important acts passed during his presidency like the immigration Act of 1924
