He worked for apple and later helped start a software company in 1991 called Ink Development Corp. The company later changed its name to eShop and was purchased by Microsoft in 1996 -
The launch of eBay
Omidyar created code for a page called Auction Web on his personal website, letting people list things for auction. To his amazement this atracted so many buyers and sellers he had to create a whole new website which he later called eBay. -
Named Chairman
In May of 1998, Omidyar was named chairman of eBay. He announced the appointment of Meg Whitman as the president and chief executive officer. EBay continued to thrive, who expanded the comapny's services through new site launches. (in Australia,Canada, Germany, JApan and the United Kingdom).
