Merlin
Merlin and his companion, both fugitives, encounter the grail in the middle of the desert, sitting on a stone. His companion takes the cup, but is unworthy and instantly turns to dust. Merlin, asking the gods' permission, drinks thankfully. He then realizes he has magic as he rests against the stone and turns the desert into a lush land that will someday be Camelot.
