Attend the University of Pennsylvania to study philosophy and linguistics with a primary focus of studying Arabic. This is where he would start to gather major influences to his study that would lead to him publishing his first academic article, Systems of Syntactic Analysis, in 1952. -
Became Assistant Professor at MIT
Through his connections, Noam Chomsky took on a assistant professor position at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. There he published his first book in 1957, Syntactic Structures. a literary analysis on current grammar structures, and the establishment of generative grammar. -
Vietnam and Anti-war Activism
Nearing the height of the Vietnam War, Noam Chomsky became a highly outspoken critic of the war, and was a prominent activist who partook in many protests, often resulting in arrest. This would eventually lead to him writing his first anti-war essay in 1967, The Responsibilities of Intellectuals. This was his first public dissent. It would be later be publish with many of his other essays in first political book in 1969, American Power and the New Mandarins. -

Activism through the 2000s
From the 1970s to the present, Noam Chomsky became highly involved in the criticism of the current events and foreign policy. Already known for his anti-war rhetoric, he further progressed into anti-establishment views, condemning many views of capitalism and censorship, often comparing media to propaganda. These views would continue up to the Iraq war, where he would promote the idea that the War on Terror was just an extension of the proxy wars from the Cold War era. -
