Niels is born
Niels Bohr was born on 7 Oct, 1885 in Copenhagen Denmark. His parents were Christian and Ellen Bohr. His father was a prominent professor in Physiology and his mother came from a family of educators. Both Neils and his brother were groomed for educational greatness in their early lives -
Attends Copenhagen University
Niels had some of the best education in the world at the time through the university of Copenhagen, and Cambridge. His studies were always in physics but started out in applied science and eventually gravitated toward theoretical science. He won many awards during his educational tenure. His major focus was on atomic physics and quantum theory. -
gets Married
Bohr married a Miss Margrethe Norlund. They had six children but two of them passed away. He was a very involved family man and would often mix work and home life just to get more time with his family. -
Nobel Prize
Some of the accolades he received were the Nobel Prize (1921), the element Bohrium was named after him, his on branch in the Copenhagen University, and a house next to the Carlsberg brewery with his own tap of free beer for life. -
Bohr escapes Nazi's
During the Nazi occupation of Denmark (Sept 1943), Bohr along with his family escaped in a small fishing boat to Sweden and then traveled to England. While in England Bohr worked on the Manhattan project to help combat the Nazi assault on the world. -
His final fight
After the war was over, Bohr recognized the role his nuclear research took in the devastation of the atom bombs used. He spent much of the rest of his life working towards the denuclearization of all world powers. He passed away on the 18th of Nov, 1962. He was a hero to the world and an example of doing what was right. His legacy is more than just the science he left behind but the ethics he applied to that science for his entire life.
