Fathers Death
Nathaniels father died in 1808 due to yellow fever. After, he moved in with his wealthy uncles. He suffered a leg injury that immoblized him for a long time wherehe read a lot and wanted to become a writer. -
College
Hawthorne attended Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine that was aided by his wealthy uncles. This is where he knew he wanted to become a author. -
My Kinsman, Major Molineux
One of his most famous short stories about aboy going to Boston trying to find his family member. He also wrote Roger Malvin's Burial that year. -
Marriage
He was married to Sophie Peabody in 1842 after they moved to Brook Farm. They married and moved to Old Manse in Concord -
Salem Custom House
After he moved into Old Manse and had his first kid, he became the surveyor for the Salem Custom House. But, when Zachary Taylor was elected, he was kicked out because ZT was a Whig and NH was a Democrat. -
The Scarlett Letter
After he was fired from the Salem Custom House, he had the free time to write the Scarlet Letter. It was about a cheating woman who has a mark on her chest to show what shes done, her lover, and her revenge seeking husband. This was what made NH famous -
American Consul
NH was made American Consul in Britain by Franklin Pierce because NH wrote a campaign bio for him. He spent the next 4 years in England and wrote Our Old Home. -
Death
In the midst of the Civil War, NH died in his sleep at Plymouth, New Hampshire. He knew that his health was getting bad but he still wouldn't go get any medical help.
