    After hearing some of the things about hiss grandfathers past, Jacob decides he wants to learn more. His grandpa is really old though and tends to lose some of his memory. One day while visiting his grandfather, he discovers that his grandpa died while try to follow a "monster" into the woods.

    After the funeral, the family had to clean the home of Jacob's grandpa. Jacob comes across a box full of pictures from the stories he told about the peculiar kids in the orphanage where he used to live on the Welish Island.
  • Summer vacation

    Jacob had to decide whether or not to go to his uncle's house in Texas or to the Welish Island where his grandfather's orphanage used to be to learn more about the children in the pictures. He decides that he wants to go learn about his grandfather's past. Him and his father take that summer to discover some peculiar things on that island.
  • The Peregrine

    On the island, Jacob discovered that his grandfather was a child refugee from WWII when the kids are to exacuate from there home. His parents were killed during the war. While sleeping he has a dream that the mother who was head of the orphanage was named Miss Peregrine because she was able to shape shift into that kind of bird. Like other child in the orphanage they were taken into that home because that were often found "peculiar."

    In a rush, he is guided into the forest where he find a seperate little town that was destroyed by a bomb that was dropped. There was a huge hole in the roof of the home. The thing was that inside the room there was a trunk, inside the trunk there were pictures that had the same children in the pictures he found in his grandpa's house.

    Meets some new people
    Jacob meets his grandfather's childhood friends. After telling them that he is the grandson of there friend he has the bad job of telling them that he had passed away. They cried but wanted to introduce Jacob to Miss Peregrine.
  • They kidnap him

    Like clock work there is a loud siren and crash. This is about the time the bomb ran into the house. But everyone acted so normal like it was okay. This happened about three times because he was there for three days.

    There was a huge time difference. Jacob thought he had been away from his dad for three days, but he was only away for a couple of hours....

    Jacob enjoys hanging out with the other peculiar children, such as Millard, who is invisible, and Bronwyn, who has incredible strength.
  • Strange stories

    Then Jacob is told some mysterious stories of strange killings in the pub he's staying at, and warns the peculiar children. When they tell Jacob he is the only one who can see the "hollows" or "hollowgasts", the monsters that killed Jacob's grandfather, Jacob knows he is the only hope they have for safety.
  • They kill the Hollow

    Jacob and some of the peculiar children encounter a hollow which Jacob kills.

    Upon return to the Miss Peregrine's home, they find that Miss Peregrine has been kidnapped.

    At the end of the book, the peculiar children look for another time loop they can stay in because their current one has been destroyed
