    King Louis XIV's parents were very wealthy. His mother was Hapsburg Spanish queen Anne of Austria, his father was Louis XIII king of France. He ruled until his death in May 13, 1643.
  • Near Death Exerience

    Louis XIV was appointed the throne as a toddler. He was too young to rule, so at the time even though he was supposed to be king was not king. He was supposed to be watched by his governor, Nicholas de Neufille however, Louis almost drowned, thus indicating the monarch was neglected and not cared about.

    When King Louis XIV was unable to rule his chief minister created policies that furthered consolidated the monarchs power. This angered the nobles and members of the aristocracy, this erupted into a civil war in France forcing his family to flee Paris.

    King Louis married his first cousin Maria-Therese daughter of King Phillip IV of Spain,and they were married until she died in 1683.The couple had 6 kids together.

    King Louis oldest child was born on November 1, 1661. Compared to the other children he who died early in life, he lived until 1711. He grew up in a wealthy family and was an heir to throne as he got the title Dauphin. He never ruled France as King Louis XIV ruled until 1715 after his oldest child died.

    King Louis had a lot of stress. All of his 17 children passed before he did. His oldest only made it until 1711, King Louis lived until 1715. Therefore, none of his kids became ruler after him.

    King Louis XIV created a 25 mile hunting lodge into one of the largest palaces in the world. He spent years building this palace. He officially moved into the palace in 1682. He even married his second wife Marquise in the courtyard.

    King Louis XIV married his second wife Marquise de Maintenon after Marie died. However, there is no documentation of the wedding. She never became queen and there is no date to when they divorced.
  • Disease

    Towards the end of his life King Louis XIV's battled a disease. He battled gangrene. Gangrene is a disease in which the body tissue died, caused by blood supply loss due to an underlying illness. This illness ended up leading to his death.
