Joins St Stephens Cathedral Choir
Due to the tone and delicacy of his voice Haydn was given the opportunty to join the cathedral choir and this was his frst exposure to music. -
Expulsion from St Stephens Choir
He had a controversial end to his time there as he spectacularly snipped off a pigtail from one of his fellow choirboys in protest of his dismissal. He left as his voice changed during his adolescence. His punishment was a public caning. -

For the bulk of the later 18th century, Haydn was a music director for the court of the Hungarian Esterhazy famly and remained so until the death of Prince Miklos Jozef Esterhazy in 1790 -
