    After the death of his brother Jack his parents had gotten in many fights about moving and he was afraid his father was going to hit his mom until he had stepped in an stood up for her. During this time his father had also killed his dog by shooting him and left him in the back field where John had found him. This was a traggic time and its also something that John carries around in his heart and it was a "deep cut that went deep and stayed there" (page #237-238)
  • Big Albums

    Big Albums
    in February Johnny Cash released his Album "Folsom Prison Blue" and it was in the top 5 for 23 weeks. He had then recorded the album live in the Folsom Prison in California and became a big thing for him to perform to inmates. This was a big time for him.
  • First Prison Gig

    After he dropped the Folsom Prison Blues album and recorded it in the actual prison he then started doing shows for the inmates. He did this with another album as well but was more known for Folsom Prison. Every year on New Years he would perform for their annual and had done so for several years in a row, he had also brought June with him
  • Tunnel crawl

    Tunnel crawl
    In October after not sleeping for days and losing lots of weigh (down to 155) and he decided that it was enough. He found a tunnel called Nickajack Cave and laid in the dark thinking he was ready to die, but he knew god wasn't going to let him slip away that easily and as he crawled out he found his wife there and he told her he needed help. (page 169-170)
  • Farm House

    In 1972 Johnny purchased a farm house where he would go after shows for a couple days alone while June went to NYC, they did this for some time away and to restore their minds. This is where Cash had gone after rehab alone and worked on his garden and became a better person and thought he also became closer to god
  • Absolutely Nothing

    Absolutely Nothing
    During of the time of the 80's Johnny was really into getting his songs and ideas recorded... But no one else wanted him. He was into the older country music and this was the time where the newer music was coming out and he was just too old. For a couple years no one would take him in to record which made him loose his motivation to just about anything. (page #252)
  • Goes to Rehab

    Goes to Rehab
    After a show johnny had boarded a plane very intoxicated and yelled at a flight attendant, he was then taken to the hospital. He then got written notes from everyone in his family and crew saying how much they loved him and how much that he needed to be around. The one that hurt him the most was John (his sons) and that was when he decided it was time to go to rehab and get better after his surgery. He stayed in rehab for a month. (page 180-181)
  • Song with his son

    Song with his son
    in 1987 him and his son John Carter wrote a song called "Waters from the wells at home". This is an important event because this is a deep and meaningful song that they wrote about coming home and getting better, John Cater was also one of the biggest influences on Johnny to go to rehab and get better so its just a song that he holds dear to his heart. (page #225-226)
