J.I was born September 23, 2001 in Brooklyn, New York. His real name being Justin Irvin Rivera. -
First Freestyles
At the age of 11 years old, j,i started to find his interest in music and started freestyling. -
Magazines
One of the challenges he had to do on the show earned him a spot on the hip-hop weekly magazine which would be his first appearance on a cover page. -
First Appearence
J.I first music appearances was in a show called the "rap game". He came on the show in season 2 and quickly created a small following from this. -
Creating a Following
By the 2016 at the age of 15, j.i accumulated over 500,000 views on his YouTube channel from posting songs and freestyles. -
First Project
J.I released his first project which was a three song mixtape called "Barely Famous" -
Decisions
J.I got kicked out of his moms house and had to make a decision of what he was going to do. He decided to give music one last try. -
Slowing Down
After his clout from the show started to die down he started to lose motivation. He started to waste his money on unnecessary things and considered a job in construction. -
First Album
In October 2019, he released his mixtape "Hood Life Krisis" which included his break out single called "need me". -
Signed
In November, his song 'need me' got over 3 million streams and he announced that he signed to Interscope Records. He also put out his fifth and final music video for his album. -
Albums and Tours
December he released another project called 'Hood Life Krisis v 2'. Shortly after he announced that he will be doing a national tour all around America. -
Collaborations
After releasing more music and doing more shows, J.I was finally able to do a collaboration with a bigger artist. The artist, 'Lil Tjay', remixed an original song by J.I called 'Hood Scars'. The song quickly gained over millions of streams and is now sitting at jus over 44 million streams. -
Welcome to Gstarr Vol. 1
'Welcome to Gstarr Vo; 1' is an EP that J,I would release on July 17th with other artist featuring on it. Within the first 20 minutes of being released, it gained 1.3 million streams on Spotify. -
Going Gold
On November 30th, 2020 J.I's hit song 'need me' would be certified gold be the RIAA, which would be his first career plaque -
First Concert in Canada
On October 20th J.I had his first concert in Canada. It was located in Toronto at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
