  • John Rockefeller

    John Rockefeller
    John D. Rockefeller founded the standard oil company. He was born in 1838, July 8 in New York City. He began in the oil business in 1863 by investing in a Cleveland Ohio Refinery. In 1870 he established Standard Oil and by the 1890's controled over 90% of the refieries and Pipelines., so he had a monopoly on the industry.
  • William Mckinley

    William Mckinley
    The 25th president of the United States during the Industrial Revolution and the Mexican-American war, which he led the U.S. to victory. During his term he raised protective tarrifs to promote american industry, so you could say he was really pro-industrialization. But sadly in September 1901 he was assisnated.
  • Bessemer Process

    Bessemer Process
    This was the first inexpensive induestrial process for the mass production of steel. The process was named after the inventor Henry Bessemer who took out the patent in 1855. So basically the process is carried out in an ovoid steel container which can have the capacity to hold 8 to 30 tons of molten iron.

  • Booket T. Washington

    Booket T. Washington
    Born into slavery he was one of the most dominant leaders of the african american community between the late 1800's and early 1900's. Before slavery was just about to end he was the voice of the slaves trying to fight even more to get their freedom and his. He was an advisor to the President and the founder of the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama.
  • Henry Ford

    Born July 30, 1863 Henry Ford was one of the great industrialist of his time. From the time he was on his family farm till the time he was a succesful business man Henry was always interested in machines, which probably inspired his dream of becoming a motor man. By 1896 he had constructed his first horseless carriage. In 1903 he first incorpoerated the Ford Motor Company and in 1908 offere the Ford Model T automobile for $950. He dominated throughout the 1900's until his death in 1947.
  • W.E.B. Dubios

    Born in Great Barrington Mass. Mr. W.E.B was a very intelligent person graduating as the Valedictorian from his highschool. He was known during the Industrial Revlution as trying to help the blacks get equal rights by spending countless years at school studying things such as economics and is most known for his famous dissertation, The Suppression of the African slave trade to the U.S.
  • Standard Oil

    This was the Companay and Corporate trust, that lasted from 1870 to 1911, and it was the industrial empire of John D, Rockefeller and his associates. This company dominated almost all of their other competitors and controlled 90 to 95% of all refineries. By doing so Mr. Rockefeller had to sign the Standard Oil trust which ment that companies could be purchased, created, dissolved, merged, or divided. But once the government got involved in 1906 their regin would come to an end in 1911.

    Alexander Bell's Telephone
    This was the ivention that changed the world, in my opinion. This wire-based eltrical system was the first major communicating device of its time which changed many peoples lives. It would go on to help society in a big way as well by people no longer having to write letters. Although bell was credited for inventing this first there was a big arguement with Elisha Gray considering they both had their own telephones made but Bell was the lucky one.

    Chineese Exclusion Act
    This was the first major law resrticting immigration in the United States. This law was enacted in response to the U.S.'s economic fears and also prevented any chineese from becoming an American Citizen. But the chineese were not all that bad they did help in making our first railroad system.
  • Intersate Commerce Act

    Intersate Commerce Act
    This act made the railroad industry subject to Federal regulation and was made in response to the public demanding that the railroad operations be regulated. Prior to this act Railroads were a monopoly since they were privately owned and never regulated.

    This, an early publication of photojournalism turned into a novel, was to show and talk about the terrible living conditions and factory life in New York by Jacob Riis. This exposed america in a great way on how they need to change plus in his novel he talked about how we could start to help make it better.

    Sherman Anti Trust Act
    This was the first measure passed by the U.S. Congress to prohibit trusts. This act was an act that took no time tc come into place seeing as how it got majority vote everytime a decision needed to be made on it,
  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    Plessy v. Ferguson
    This was a federal case between Adolph Plessy who was a light colored man sitting in the white only section of the car and refused to move to the black section. Adolph would go on to lose the case with a 7-1 vote by the court due to evidence found in the 14th ammendment.
  • Spanish-American War

    Spanish-American War
    This war started when the U.S. battleship sank in Havana Harbor on Feb 15, 1898. Following their declaration they made the amendment the Teller amendment which said that they would not have any involvement over Cuba. The war ended with the signing of thr Treaty of Paris in Dec 10, 1898 and as a result Spain lost its control over the remains of its overseas empire Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines Islands, Guam, and other islands.

    This fine invention replaced the need for animal pulling carts for means of transportation. This invention changed the whole world in a positve and negative way. Some positives were that now there were new means of production which means their would need to be more factories and more workers. But one major negative that still effects us today is pollution and continues to effect us badly.
