In 425 BC, Aristophanes was the son of Philippus. He started Comedy and made shows of things that would go on in Athens. Is was said that no other author could demonstrate the life in Athens more convincingly than he could. Most of his ideas were highly obscene. -

When Aristophanes was creating comedy plays he got his ideas from Saytr plays. These were plays with choruses of satyrs, ancient Greek people, and they were very rude and obscene. They were known for drunkenness and brazen sexuality. -

Comedy in its early days-Greece
In Greece, comedy was originated from ribald and phallic processions. Comedy in its early days were scenes of verbal abuse, obscene plays with nudity showing, and showed at festivals or gatherings. -

Aristotle
Aristotle thought that the origins of comedy were obscure because it was treated seriously from its inception. He divided comedy into three genres: Satire, Romantic, and Farce. Comedy to him was no sexual humor at all and was based off happy characters for plays. -

Aristotle thought that comedy was one of the main parts of literature. Since it was the fourth, the other three were tragedy epic, and, lyric poetry. He believed that literature was just an imitation of life itself. -

This era was the start of the Golden Age. Queen Elizabeth ruled and it was known as the "Reign of Queen Elizabeth". It brought out classical ideas. -

A public house was a newer form of a music hall. After time music halls became so unpopular that public houses replaced them. These were mainly places for people to get drunk, party, and watch shows presented at the house. -

Better known as W.C. Fields, he was another comedian of this time. He was also an actor, juggler and writer. He was really weird with a contempt for dogs and children. -

This was another type of entertainment of this time. It showed lots of popular skits with singers, comedians, writers, musicians and many other people with exotic talents. -

"Sir Charles Chaplin" Charlie Chaplin. He was born on April 16th in 1889. He was an actor who and very important to the film industry in this time. His legend lasted 75 years until he died. -

Music halls provided entertainment until public houses took over. Comedians were paid to preform. Artists and stagehands didn't get along, it was known as industrial conflict, and they were always fighting to see who was going to preform. -
