Zacharias Janssen
Janssen was born from 1580-1588 no one is 100% sure, and same with his death they have guessed from 1632-1638. Yet his inventions were ground breaking. He created the first ever microscope. Soon after he created the first compound microscope (2 or more lenses) with a 9x magnification. Not only did he invent the microscope he was one of three inventors of the telescope. -
Robert Hooke
Robert was born on July 28 1635 in isle of wight, England. he was born into a poor family but became rich through his scientific contributions. For example he invented the universal joint, iris diagram, and an early Prototype of the respirator. Other scientific contributions includes an entire book of microscopic discoveries. -
Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek
Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek was born october 24th 1632 in Delft, Dutch Republic, and died august 26 1723. He was known as the “unlikely scientist” due to the fact that he had no education growing up, and was very pour. Despite that he made over 500 different types of microscopes, but only ten we still use today. He observed anything from lake water to tiny plant leaves, making groundbreaking discoveries. -
Carl Linnaeus
Carl was born on May 23, 1707 in Sweden. He studied botany and medicine, but his biggest contribution came one his trip to lapland. There he took inventory of plant life and investigated the indigenes. But one of the strangest things happen when he categorized apes and humans in the same category. -
Charles Darwin
Darwin was born on February 12, 1809 in the UK. Darwin is mostly known for his evolution theory, which is that apes evolved into humans, and other animals like fish grew legs and became lizards. This discovery came when he went to the the galapagos, where he observed tons of strange never seen before animals like the finches. -
Theodor Schwann
Theodor Schwann was born december 7, 1810 in Germany. His best years and biggest contributions came while under the work of psychologist Muler, where they observed animal tissue, microscopically, and discovered nerves and muscular tissue. Other work was on cell theories such as that all plants are made of cells, Vitalism and germ theories. -
Rudolf Virchow
Rudolf Virchow was born on october 13, 1821 in Schivelbein Prussia, and died september 5 1902. Unlike most scientists Rudolf came from money and attended the Prussian Military academy where he got the opportunity to study medicine and chemistry. He’s known for tons of different contributions to science but mostly known for his work in cell theory and one of the first to discover leukemia cells. -
Matthias Jakob Schleiden
Matthias Jakob Schleiden was born on April 5, 1804 in hamburg Rome. Growing up he practiced Law at Heidelberg, but came to love for plant biology (botany). While teaching botany at a university he discovered that all plant are made of cells, making him and schwann the first to ever find that out. He also discovered the importance of a plant Nucleus. -
Alfred Russel Wallace
Alfred was born on January 8, 1823 in monmouthshire, Wales. Most people know him for his knowledge on geographical distribution of animal species. But an even bigger contribution was his books on both sides of the evolution theory. Like most scientist he agreed with darwin. It also helped that he has been to the galapagos.
