The Birth of Hernán Cortés, marqués del Valle de Oaxaca
Hernán Cortés, marqués del Valle de Oaxaca (Hernán Cortes) was born in 1485 at the Crown of Castille. His father was Martín Cortés de Monroy and his mother was Catalina Pizarro Altamirano. His family had little wealth but he still managed to be very educated and clever. -

In the year 1499 at the age of 14 Hernan Cortes went to college.He was accepted into The University of Salamanca. Law was what he studied. -

Hispaniola
In 1504 Hernan Cortes sailed to Hispaniola. In His Ennola he became a farmer and a notary to a town council. He got a disease while he was at Hispaniola. -

Cuba
In 1511 he recovered from the disease and sailed with Diego Velázquez to conquer Cuba. When he arrived at Cuba he became the clerk to the treasurer along side Velazquez who was the governor. When he arrived he was given a gift of land and Indian slaves which was called a repartimiento. He was also given the first house in the capital of Santiago. -

Montezuma II
Cortés then set out for the Mexican interior in 1518. He arrived at the home of a large group of Aztecs. The ruler, Montezuma II, was fond of Cortes so he he became one of his closest allies, along with about 200,000 other Indians. -

Yucatan
Hernan cortes sailed for the coast of Yucatan on February, 18, 1519. He had 508 soldiers, 100 sailors,and 16 horses. He sailed for about a month before arrived at his destination. -

Tabasco
In March 1519 he landed at Tabasco. The Indians of Tabasco welcomed him with gifts, including 20 women, one of which gave birth to his son. He stayed with the Indians in order to gain knowledge. -

Conquering the Aztec
On November 8 1519, Cortes entered the city of Tlaxcala which he was not aloud to be in. He took a small Spanish force and only 1,000 Tlaxcaltecs. He captured Montezuma II so he could conquer the country for Spain. -

Battle against Narvaez
Hernan Cortes heard of a force from Cuba that was coming to take Tlaxcala from him. That force was led by Panfilo Narvaez. He gathered up a small group of Spaniards and Tlaxcaltecs to fight against Narvaez. He defeated him in the battle. -

Mistake
In 1524 he spent two years on a disastrous expedition that damaged his health. His property was taken by the officials he left in charge. He sent out many letters to the king of Spain trying to justify his reckless actions but it didn't work.
