With the stuff he finds in the survival kit Brian builds a fire -

Brian finds food in the suvival kit he got from the plane -
The rifle
He finds a rifle in the survival kit which allows him to protect himself and kill animals with and in the book it states "The rifle changed him, the minute he picked it up." -
The Bear!
Brian spots a bear near his shelter searching for food and when he see it he is frozen with fear -
The Rescue
He is recues 54 days after the crash using the Emergency Transmitter he found in the Survival Kit at first he thought it didnt work but it actually did
