Commonly known as 9/11. This is a terroist attack agianst the World Trade Center and the pentagon in the United States. This event killed hundreds of innocent people. -
Enlists into the Army
Ryan Smithson enrolled into the army at the age of 17. He wanted to stop the terroists after the 9/11 attack that he witnessed in his history class. -
Basic Training
Ryan is put into a 9 week training process to prepare the privates. Their are three phases in basic training. There is red phase that breaks them down, then white phase that builds them up, and then there's blue phase that breaks them down again. -
Ryan and Heather gets Married
Ryan and Heather marries before he gets deployed into Iraq. He does this because he is afraid that Heather will only remember him as someone that went and died in the army if he dies. -
Deployed in Iraq
EQ platoon gets deployed to Iraq. At this time they arrived in Iraq. -
Relief
Ryan receives some basic products from people back at his home. He also receives a letter that symoblizes the innocence of a child in the letter that he lost in the war. -
Abu Ghraib
EQ platoon gets sent to Abu Ghraib prison for an earth-moving mission. While their there were bombarded by mortars and soon got used to the sound of the mortars. -
Taste of Home
Ryan gets the month of May for a two week leave from Iraq. He soon gets paranoid after a balloon poppingand misheard it as a gunshot. -
Tears
On this day Seargeant James Henry Conklin died from an IED right behind Ryan's convoy. Ryan really didn't know the guy very well. Ryan held back tears at Seargeant Conklin's funeral being ashamed for not remebering him but ultimately cried at the end when a soldier plays taps. -
Finally Home
Ryan returns home after his time at Iraq ends. After arriving, Ryan starts to think about Iraq and his platoon. -
PTSD
Ryan starts living as a civilian and gets a job and goes to college. His memories of Iraq on the other hand still haunts him frequently waking him up late at night with cold sweats on him unitl a silhouette came in and calmed him down. -
Ghosts of War Published
Ghosts of War, the novel and memoir of Ryan's exeriences in Iraq gets published. Published by HarperCollins Publisher.
