Louis XIII
A few months before his ninth birthday, Louis became king of France and Navarre after his father Henry IV had been assassinated.He later sent his mother into exile.Louis organised the development and administration of New France, expanding its settlements westward along the Saint Lawrence River from Quebec City to Montreal. -
Louis XIV
He ruled from 1643 to his death which is a total of 72 years and 110 days.He sought to eliminate remnants of of feudalism. He successfully increased the influence of the crown and its authority over the church and aristocracy. -
Louis XV
He was king for 64 years and became king when he was 5 years old.During his reign, Louis returned the Austrian Netherlands, but given back to Austria by the terms of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle of 1748. Louis also ceded New France in North America to Spain and Great Britain at the conclusion of the Seven Years' War in 1763. He incorporated the territories of Lorraine and Corsica into the kingdom of France. -
Louis XIV
The first part of Louis' reign was marked by attempts to reform France in accordance with Enlightenment ideals. These included efforts to abolish serfdom, remove the the taille, and increase tolerance toward non-Catholics.He secretly sent supplies, ammunition and guns to America, and went to war with Britain.Louis was arrested on 13 August 1792, and sent to a prison. Louis was stripped of all of his titles and honors. -
Louis XVII
Louis XVII had been imprisoned from August 1792 until his death from illness in 1795 at the age of 10, he was never officially king, nor did he rule.He had died of a scrofulous infection of long standing.
