  • Trust vs. Mistrust

    Trust vs. Mistrust
    Billy is almost a year old. He spends most of his time with his family, especially as he is completely dependent upon them. During this stage in Erickson's psychosocial stages the emphasis is upon trust vs. mistrust. If I cry will Daddy come see if I'm okay? If I'm hungry will Mommy feed me? If they leave will they come back? If his care is consistent, reliable, and nurturing during this period this will set him up to be able to maintain trusting relationships with others in the future.
  • Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt

    Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt
    Billy is now three years old and has the ability to explore his environment more. He loves to do things for himself. However, whenever he tries to his shoe he struggles and his father can be very short with him. This may create feelings of shame and doubt in the future- or reliance on others for help. However, he is learning his abilities which is good.
  • Intimacy vs. Isolation

    Intimacy vs. Isolation
    Billy is know a young adult exploring the hectic world of dating. He just got engaged to his fiancé after many failed relationships. His experience with heartbreak has allowed him to love more deeply and appreciate the commitment his soon to be wife has for him. After undergoing periods of isolation and depression, he is now overjoyed with love.
  • Ego Integrity vs. Despair

    Ego Integrity vs. Despair
    Billy is slowly failing due to pancreatic cancer. However, it has made him treasure his life and last moments surrounded by those he loves. He shakes his head as he thinks of how success-driven he'd been a young man, and nearly cries tears of joy as he sees his grandchildren, wife, and lifetime friends all around him. Although there are things he regrets, he is mostly satisfied with his life and proud of the legacy he's left in his family.
