Elias Boudinot
Elias Boudinot was born May 2, 1740 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia. He was a lawyer and statesman from Elizaebth, New Jersey. Elias Boudinot was an apprentice to Richard Stockton and went to Princeton New Jersey to read the law. -
NJ Assembly
At a young age, Elias Boudinot aligned with the Whigs towards the end of the Revolutionary War. He was elected to the NJ assembly 1775. The Assembly is the lower house of the NJ legislature. -
Colonel for Continental Army
On June 1777. General George Washington appointed Boudinot and asked him if he could be the commisary for prisoners. He served as a colonel for Continental Army until he retired on July 7, 1778. -
Second Continental Congress
November 1777, New Jersey legislature, Boudinot was one of the delegates to the Second Continental Congress. His duties as Commissary prevented his attendance to it, in 1778 he choose to resign. -
First Meeting of Congress
Boudinot attended his first meeting of the Congress on July 7, 1778. As a delegate, he pn going had concerns for the welfare of prisoners of war. Ended his first term that year. -
President of Continental Congress
Elias Boudinot was elected as President of Congress for a one year term in November 1782. -
Signging of Preliminary Articles of Peace
April of 1783, Elias Boudinot signed the Preliminary Articles of Peace a document that was ratified this day. It declared that the war was over, the American Revolution. The Preliminary was a primary draft of the Treaty of Paris. -
To the House of Representatives
The Government was officially formed in 1789. Elias was voted to the US House of Representatives. He was as well elected a second and third time. He declined the fourth time. He left Congress in 1795. -
First Amendment
The House of Representatives voted for the First Amendment to the Constitution for state ratification. Following day Congressman, Elias Boudinot proposed to the House and Senate for a joint request for George Washington to make a day of Thanksgiving. -

Elias was appointed by President George Washington to be Director of the United States Mint. The United States Mint produces circulating coinage for the United States and conducts commerce and trade. The Mint was created by Congress with the the Coinage Act of 1792.
