    Alonso Quixana, an old gentleman, forgets himself after reading many books of chivalry and decides to roam as a knight-errant named Don Quixote

    Inn 1

    His first journey is to an inn he believes is a castle, where he insists an innkeeper knight him into the chivalric order.

    Returning Home

    On his return home for more clothes and money, Quixote is beaten and left for dead. Afterwards, a commoner rescues him and brings him home to his niece and housekeeper.

    Right Back Home

    On Quixote's return, his niece, housekeeper and friends, a priest and barber, decide to destroy Quixote's library and the books within telling Quixote that the sage Munaton took them, which he believes was actually Friston, his arch-nemesis.

    Journey 2 Start

    After finding a squire, common peasant Sancho Panza, Don Quixote leaves again.

    Windmill and a Memorial

    Along the way, Quixote attacks a windmill believing it to be a giant, and joins some goatherders mourning the death of their friend, Chrysostom, a poet who died of a broken heart.

    Beating #2

    Shortly afterwards, Quixote meets some horse-breeders and is beaten so greatly that Sancho Panza has to take Quixote to an inn.

    Resting at the Inn

    At the inn, which Quixote perceives as a castle, the innkeeper's daughter, believed to be a princess by Quixote, promises to come to his bed later that night. However, Quixote ends up caressing Maritornes, the half-blind hunchbacked servant girl.

    Brawling In an Inn

    This enrages her lover, a mule carrier, who beats Quixote after he realizes that his lover is struggling to get away. In the dark, a brawl ensues including Sancho and the Innkeeper as well.

    Lawful Intervention

    An officer of the Holy Brotherhood, hearing the commotion, fears that Quixote is dead. When Quixote awakes, he asks for ingredients to prepare the true balsam of Fierabras. He prepares the balsam, vomits, and wakes up later, feeling better.

    Journeying On

    The next day, Quixote and Panzo leave without paying, with Quixote believing it to be an enchanted castle. While Panzo doesn't get away so nicely, Quixote goes on an arc of violence, killing sheep, losing teeth, and freeing a chain of galley-slaves.

    For Love

    Afterwards, Quixote befriends Cardenio, The Ragged Knight of the Sorry Countenance, who is mourning the fact that his true love, Lucinda, has married another man: Don Fernando. This causes Quixote to pine for Dulcinea del Toboso, who sends Sancho to give a letter to Dulcinea. Instead of delivering it, he finds the barber and the priest and leads them to Quixote.

    Return of the Inn

    At the inn, Quixote visited earlier, Cardenio is reunited with Lucinda, and Don Fernando is reunited with his love, Dorotea. However, the Holy Brotherhood has an arrest for Don Quixote for "setting at liberty a group of galley-slaves".

    Returning Home

    The priest begs for the officer to have mercy on Quixote because he is insane. The officer agrees and has Quixote locked in a cage and carted home. At first, Quixote believes the cage to be an enchantment, but when it is clear that he is going home he does not fight back.
