Birth
Robert was born on May 30, 1965. He was born at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Granada Hills, California. Robert was the youngest of five children, three sisters and one brother. -
Moving Houses
Robert and his family moved from Granada Hills to Woodland Hills. This is because the new 118 freeway went through his house and they were forced to move somewhere else. -
First Time to Disneyland
Robert's first time to Disneyland was in the summer of 1970. Robert's favorite rides were the Autobahn, Pirates of the Caribbean, and It's a Small World. -
Robert's First Family Dog
Robert and his family got their first dog in October of 1974. His name was Bruno and he was a Dalmation. As an adult he weighed over 80 pounds and when he was one he could look over Robert's yard fence. -
One of the Most Interesting Things That Happened
Robert and five of his Saint Mel's Children’s Choir were picked to sing a song on a new album called Spirit by John Denver. The name of the song was Pegasus. Unfortunately, it can still be purchased on ITunes today. -
Middle School Graduation
In June 1979, Robert graduated middle school at Saint Mel's Catholic School. He went to Crespi High School for 9th grade and then went to Chaminade College Preparatory from 10th through 12th grade. -
First Race Boat
Robert's dad got his first race boat and they also got a cabin at Lake Naciemento near Paso Robles, California. They went waterskiing every weekend during the summer. -
Graduated High School
In June 1983, Robert graduated from Chaminade College Preparatory in West Hills, California. He was accepted into various universities. He decided to go to the University of Southern California. He started in the fall of 1983. -
Semester in Madrid, Spain
In January 1985, Robert spent a semester in Madrid, Spain. His class traveled throughout Spain. After the semester ended, he got to travel to various countries in Europe. He visited Italy, Germany, Austria, France, and Morocco. -
Graduated College
Robert Graduated from University of Southern California with a Bachlor of Science in Accounting. He got many job offers from accounting firms. He decided to work at Ernst & Young in Palo Alto, California. -
Started First Job
In January 1988, Robert started at Ernst & Young (formally known as Arthur Young) in Palo Alto, California. He worked in the tax department and worked with many high technology start up companies such as Sun Microsystems and Cisco Systems. -
First Dog
In 1990, Robert got his first Labrador Retriever puppy named Ja
ck. This was Robert’s first dog that he had as an adult. Jack went everywhere with Robert and was a very important dog to him. -
Transferred to Washington, D.C.
Robert was transferred to Ernst & Young's National Tax Department where he worked on new tax laws. He co-authored the Ernst & Young's Tax Guide book. -
Transferred Back to San Jose, California
In July 1994, Robert returned to the Bay Area with Ernst & Young. He was promoted to Senior Manager and led the Tax Operations practice for the firm's West Region. -
Robert and Kathryn Meet
On New Years Day in 1995, friends introduced Kathryn and Robert to each other. (And Fireworks Exploded!) They started dating soon right after. They became great friends and spent a lot of time together. -
Marriage
August 24, 1998, Robert and Kathryn got married and their reception was at Villa Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, California. Many family and friends gathered for the event. Robert said this was the first of the four best days of his life. -
Robert made Partner
In October 1998, Robert was promoted to partner at Ernst & Young. He led the tax operations practice and worked on the firm's top Ten Fortune 500 clients. -
First Child Was Born
On July 19, 1999, Robert and Kathryn had their first child. Lauren Kathryn Sweeney was born at 8:02 PM at Good Sam Hospital in San Jose, California. This was Robert's second best day of his life. -
New CFO Job
In October 1999, Robert made the difficult decision to leave Ernst & Young. He was offered a CFO job at one of his client's, Network Alchemy in Santa Cruz, California. -
Nokia Buys Network Alchemy
After working only two months, Nokia bought Network Alchemy in December 1999. Robert worked with Nokia until the official date of purchase was filed with the SEC. -
Started VC Career
In May, 2000, Robert started the Incubation practice for Sequoia Capital and Accel Partners. He served as CFO on their Portfolio companies in Palo Alto and San Jose. -
Second Child Was Born
On March 10, 2001, Robert and Kathryn's first son and second child was born. Sean Joseph Sweeney was born at 1:03 AM at Good Sam Hospital in San Jose, California. This was Robert's third best day of his life. -
Moved to Saratoga
In December 2001, Robert and Kathryn left Willow Glen in San Jose and moved to Saratoga, California. Although it has one of the best school systems, Robert and Kathryn still decided to send their kids to Sacred Heart . -
Third Child Was Born
On April 21, 2003, Robert and Kathryn's second son and third child was born. Joseph Thomas Sweeney was born at 8:00 AM at Good Sam Hospital in San Jose, California. This was Robert's fourth best day of his life. -
First Time Coaching Softball
In March of 2004, Robert coached his daughter, Lauren, in softball. This was the first time Robert coached. This set the foudation of his current ten year coaching career. -
Became a Partner at Acuity Ventures
In August 2005, Robert became a partner at Acuity Ventures. He served as the CFO on two of their portfolo companies. He also was a director on the Board for these two companies. -
First Time Coaching Little League Baseball
In Febuary 2007, Robert coached his son Sean for the first time in Saratoga Little League baseball. Their team was the Giants. Robert coached Sean for 7 years. -
First Time Coaching Hockey
In September 2008, Robert coached his son Sean's ice hockey team at Sharks Ice. He coached Sean for another year and also coached his other son, Joe, for another year. -
First Time to Hawaii
In July 2010, Robert and his family went to Maui, Hawaii. This was the first time the entire family went to Hawaii. Family vacations in Hawaii are Robert's favorite family thing to do. -
Taking Kids To Giants World Series
In October 2012, Robert took his sons and daughter to the World Series in San Francisco to watch the Giants play the Detroit Tigers. This reminded him when his dad took him to the World Series in 1978 at Dodger Stadium. -
Today
Today, Robert enjoys watching his sons play baseball and hockey and his daughter play field hockey for Saint Francis. He still works as a VC and CFO for Silicon Valley start up companies. Family time is the most important thing to him. He loves to go to Sharks and Giants Games with his family.
