Benito Juárez was an important Mexican liberal during the time of the U.S.-Mexican War. Juárez was born into a peasant family in March 21 1806. Juárez was a lawyer and an active liberal politician at the city and state level. -

Juárez was appointed President of the Supreme Court. In 1855. In 1863, aided by the Conservatives, French forces took control of Mexico City. In 1863, the French forces advanced their way in, thus causing him and his government to go in exile from Mexico City. -

Liberal party
In 1846, the Liberal Party took power and Benito Juárez joined the push for liberal causes. In 1855, Santa Ana’s government collapsed and Benito Juárez returned from exile.
