    Working at the pharmacy

Clyde has been recently working as a soda clerk, which for he actually enjoys because he feels a sense of responsibility and because he is making his money.
  • Run-Away

The oldest, and big sister to Clyde Griffiths, Esta decided to run away from home and not tell anybody what has happened, leaving all of them surprised.
  • Is this job really what I want?

Even though Clyde is enjoying his job working as a soda clerk, he realizes this is not his definition of living the "American Dream." He realizes and then questions himself about whether this is what e wants to do for the rest of his life, he knows that he can make a lot more money than he is making currently, so he decides to search for another job.
  • My 1st Job

Clyde Griffith was tired of living in his parents shadow and he was tired of living in poverty so he decided to drop out of school because he already knew he was behind the rest of the students in his class and so he decided to go find a job He found a few jobs here in there, but one of his mediocre jobs he liked was as a soda clerk at a pharmacy.
  • Green-Davidson

So since Clyde wanted to find a better job, he collaborated with a bell boy that works there, and the boy that worked there convinced Clyde that he should interview and try to work at the hotel as well. Once Clyde found out that he got the job and that he realized how much money he was going to be making and he would possibly get tips he was all for leaving his old soda clerk job.
  • Green-Davidson Part 2

So, as Clyde starts getting used to working at the Green Davidson, he realizes that it is nothing like his old job. He meets so many new people that start to influence him, but not in a good way. As he is meeting new people he meets two women named Hortense and Roberta. Roberta starts to have feelings for Clyde, but Clyde wants nothing to do with her on the other hand, Clyde has pretty much fallen deeply in love with Hortense, while Hortense only wants to use Clyde for his money.
  • What could go wrong now?

So Clyde has been working at the Green-Davidson Hotel for about 4 months now, and he has been very much so acquainted with all of the staff and by now he has pretty much became best friends with all of them, so they wanted to take him out for a night on the town.
  • Are you serious?

So, by this time, Clyde's older sister, Esta, has returned home and apparently she ran off to get married, but when she came back she was not married, but she had a child, which was extremely shocking to their entire family. At this point in time, Clyde felt as if he was making very good money and thought he was living the "American Dream", but with his newfound earnings he was not planning on sharing, not even with his own family, his family that is pretty much struggling to stay a float.
  • I cannot believe this

By now, Clyde just feels as if he is the man in charge. He has pretty much abandoned his family and he only cares about himself and the women he tries to have intercourse with and fall in love with and the people he works with. He is so wrapped up in his dreams of being wealthy, the women he is having affairs with, and just money in general, not remotely caring about what could possibly go wrong in his life.
  • This is not real right now.

Clyde has pretty much fallen madly in love with Hortense and she did not even close feel the same way towards him, but Clyde was so blinded by love and blinded by the love of money All he wants to do is spend his money on women that do not care anything about him. Now after some sense has finally been knocked into him and he realizes that these women do not want anything with him as in relationship wise, but they just wanted to use him for money.
  • Time to move on......Wait nevermind

Once he finally realized what was happening, he decided to meet his uncle at a gathering and he ended up moving from Kansas City to moving to New York with his very wealthy uncle, aunt, and cousin. Since he did not had a job, his uncle decided to give Clyde a job at his shirt and collar factory with his cousin. He was expecting to leave his past in the past, but that did not necessarily happen because two of his past loves, Sondra and Roberta ended up working at the same factory as he did. .
  • You definitely can't be serious right now

At this point, he has gone back t his old ways by trying to swindle females. Except this time he had a higher work position so he felt as if he was an authoritative figure, so he thought he had all types of control. He started flirting with the girl Roberta, and this time the roles were reversed because Roberta was now playing the role of Clyde by falling deeply in love with somebody that she truly did not know that much about and all Clyde wanted to do was flirt, but not take anything serious.
  • You are an awful person.

So by this time, Clyde and Roberta had their affairs going on and Roberta was now the female version of Clyde because she now had very strong feelings for Clyde, but Clyde just wanted to fool around with her. Roberta was pretty much hurt by that because after all of her strong feelings came flooding in, and after all of her relations with Clyde, she ended up getting pregnant by him. Clyde clearly did not care because he tried to get her to have an abortion. Roberta being pregnant threw him off.
  • THE END.

Clyde honestly wanted nothing to do with her, so he devised a plan to kill Roberta and their unborn child. They ended up going on a date and Roberta ended up falling out of the boat and Clyde did not care to save her because she ended up drowning. So months go by and he gets put on trial for murder and he ends up getting sentenced to an execution. His visions of the "American Dream" has drastically came to an end because he wanted to be selfish and not humble and just did not care about anyone.
