His Birth
Alonzo King was born in Georgia during the very distinct times of the civil rights movement. His family was very much involved with many organizations considering the Civil Rights Movement. His grandfather, was a major member of the NAACP and a civil rights leader who absolutely loved the arts. His family faced many hardships and consiquences during their various protests. Alonzo's Brilliance is Sparked
Alonzo, as a young boy, fell in love with the art of ballet. He says his mother was one of his great dance inspirations. He responds in an interview saying: "The way she manipulated time seemed very magical to me. I could watch her for a long time, and so I admired that, you know, well I admired many things about her, but really the way she moved. And when she began to teach me, I loved it. It was a form of intimacy for us both, and I never left it alone" (Dance Flash). He was cultivated. -
Alonzo's Studies
Alonzo studied mostly in New York City with a personal famous ballet teacher, Stanley Williams, at the Harkens School of Ballet, Alvin Ailey's Dance School, and American Ballet Theater (Gladstone). -
Alonzo's Big Break
After only one semester of schooling, he was asked to perform and even choreograph in companies all around the world. He traveled performing in many European Courntires. His Choreography is Introduced
Alonzo's fist chpregraphed piece was called "Maya" and the other was "Zulu". These excellent pieces striked many viewers and professioanls of the dance world to consider looking into who he is. (LINES Website). -

This year, Alonzo picked out these elegant, lean, well-trained and altheltic dancers to have the ability to perform abstract movements. He created his company, LINES Ballet in San Francisco California (keynotespeakers.com) -
Embarked Partnership with a BFA Program
The Alonzo King's LINES dance centersoon became partnered with Dominican Uiversity's BFA Dance rogram where college students would study dance along with a degree (keynotespeakers.com) -
LINES Dance Center is founded
Alonzo King founds the Alonzo King's LINES Dance Center, which is a school attacted to the company. It was created to enrich students and inspire them to grow further as professional artists. I stayed there for five weeks last summer taking the summer intensive and I was completely enlightened through the experience of training there. It is now today one of the most pretegious dance schools in the United States (keynotes.com). -
Recogniozed for his Outstanding Creativity
Alonzo won the Bessie Award for Choreographer/Creator. He also was the recipient of NEA Choreographer's Fellowshiop, Irvine Fellowshiop in Dance, and the National Dance Project (keynotespeakers.com). -
One of the fifty Outstanding Artists
