Albert Einstein

  • Albert Einstein's birth

    Albert Einstein's birth
On March 14th, 1879 Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, South Germany. His father Hermann Einstein was an electrical engineer. This meant that at a very young age Albert Einstein was exposed to electricity related work that later influenced him. At a very young age he was thought to be dyslexic and was thought to not succeed in school. This is significant because he would later go on to be a very influential person (Brennan 229).
  • Childhood and Schooling

    Childhood and Schooling
In 1894 Albert Einsteins family's finances were very low. His family moved to Italy where his father could hopefully find work. Albert Einstein was not allowed to come with family to Milan, instead he had to stay home and finish his education. He did not move to Italy until several years after when he was already 16. This is significant because it made Einstein have to decide what to be at a young age. He chose to follow in his fathers footsteps and became an electrical engineer (Meadows 230).
  • Marriage and Teachings

    Marriage and Teachings
In 1902 Albert Einstein got married and other important events occurred. He was offered a post at Swiss Patent Office in Bern . He was deeply interested in physics now. Plus he studied mathematics in Switzerland. This is significant because he was allowed time and safety to come familiar with the terms of physics with would then lead to him extraordinary things (Meadows 230).
  • Wright Brothers Flight

    Wright Brothers Flight
On December 17th, 1903 the Wright Brothers flew the first successful flight in a self propelled aircraft. The original flight lasted 12 seconds and covered 120 feet. By 1908 the Wright brothers had managed to keep the airplane in the air for more than 38 minutes. This is significant because they were the first people to have taken flight in an aircraft and for more than minutes at a time. This later led to modern and more complex models being made from the original one ("First Airplane Flies").
  • Miracle Year 1905

    Miracle Year 1905
The year of 1905 was named the Miracle Year for Einstein because of all he accomplished. He published four major papers that year. In the first paper he explained photoelectric effect. In he second he analyzed the Brownian Movement. In the third paper he examined two theories of physics. In the fourth paper he published e=mc2. This is significant because all of the papers made a huge impact on the science community (Brennan 230).
  • San Francisco Earthquake

    San Francisco Earthquake
On April 18th, 1906 a massive earthquake struck San Francisco California and caused massive damage. This catastrophe was later classified as one of the United Sates top ten most deadliest natural events. As well as an earthquake, fires burned for several days after the occurrence because they weren't enough firefighter units for the fire to be taken care of efficiently. This is significant because it caused over 3,000 deaths and led to the city being rebuilt ("1906 San Francisco Earthquake").
  • General Theory of Relativity

    General Theory of Relativity
In 1915, Albert Einstein published the Theory of General Relativity. This theory mainly consisted of the Theory of Special Relativity but broaden to include gravity. In the theory it explains how the expansion of the universe fits into the the making of black holes and many more ideas and facts. This is significant because it was considered one of the most intellectual achievements in history and the first major theory of gravity since Newtons (Biography.com Editors).
  • Later Invention of Laser

    Later Invention of Laser
In 1917, Albert Einstein pointed out that if an atom is surrounded by appropriate radiation that it can be stimulated. This discovery called "Stimulated Emission" basically meant that if an atom is surrounded by appropriate radiation it can be stimulated into emitting a laser like product. This is important because without this theory lasers would not be around today. Without lasers we would not be able to perform eye operations and have holograms (Meadows 230).
  • Total Solar Eclipse

    Total Solar Eclipse
In 1919 a total solar eclipse occurred that would prove if Albert Einsteins General Theory of Relativity. Sir Author Eddington performed an experiment that plot the positions of the stars during the eclipse and then in their regular positions and compare them. If the stars positions were altered this would mean that Albert Einsteins theory was correct. This is significant because not only did it prove his theory to be correct but it he became widely known afterwards (O'Neill).
  • Nobel Prize

    Nobel Prize
In 1921 Albert Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize for his explanation of the photoelectric effect. Since this award he has been generally referred to as one of the most influential physicist of the 20th century. This is significant because this is one of Albert Einstein most known accomplishments. Even Albert Einstein himself refereed to the award as one of his proudest accomplishments (Meadows 230).
  • Great Depression

    Great Depression
Lasting from 1930 to 1939 the Great Depression was a period where the United States suffered both physically and financially. Wall Street went into panic and investors were wiped out. Company after companies were failing and then in 1933 the event took its lowest point. This is significant because about 15 million people were out of work causing the rate of homeless people to drastically increase. The end of the Great Depression made way into World War Two ("Us Timeline").
  • Adolf Hilter comes to power

    Adolf Hilter comes to power
In 1933 Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany. With the country in hard times due to mainly World War 1, this was basically a perfect chance for Hitlers rise to power ("Hitler Comes to power").By 1945 about eight to ten million prisoners were taken and half of them were killed. This is significant because as result of him coming to power the Holocaust occurred and millions of innocent people lost their lives (Grun 506).
  • Manhattan Project

    Manhattan Project
In 1938 an old friend of Einsteins named Otto Hann found that the nucleus of at atom could be broken down into two smaller pieces. Albert and him discovered that by using the his e=mc2 formula this was possible. The Manhattan project was formed and with Albert Einsteins help the first nuclear weapons were formed. This is significant because nuclear weapons would later become a huge threat to all countries especially in war. Albert Einstein later regretted his decision (Meadows 230).
  • World War 2

    World War 2
World War Two took place in the year 1939. The United States at first, attempted to stay neutral because they were recovering from the Great Depression but this did not last. As soon as Japan attacked Pearl Harbor the United Sates sprung into action and came involved in the war. At the end of the war the US dropped two atomic bombs on Japan. This is significant because of the amounts of deaths and knowledge used from the science revolution, plus the use of atomic bombs ("US Timeline").
  • Korean War

    Korean War
In 1950 North Korean forces invaded South Korea. They captured Seoul and Douglas MacArthur who was the commander of the UN forces in Korea later recaptured it. The United Sates forces joined in order to aid South Korea in July of that year. When the war ended a total of 5 million lives were lost. This is significant because it prevented North Korea from taking over South Korea and plus it showed that the United States were willing to send over troops to help (Grun 530)
  • Albert Einstein's Death

    Albert Einstein's Death
On April 18th, 1906 Albert Einstein died when he was 76 years old. The cause of death was an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Albert didn't want a surgery and as a result passed away at the Medical unit of Princeton college. After his death his brain was taken for surgery and a shocking discover was made. This is significant because Albert Einstein’s brain had a inferior parietal lobe that was 15% larger than that of a normal human beings. This was probably why he was so smart (Biography.com Editors).
