    John Polkinghorne, born on 16 October 1930 in Weston-super-Mare, England. He is an English physicist and a priest who publicly led the relationship between science and religion. In 1997, He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his distinguished service in science, religion, learning, and medical ethics.

    Education and Royal Society

    Polkinghorne graduated from Trinity College at Cambridge with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1952, a master’s degree, and a doctorate in quantum field theory in 1955. In 1974, he received an additional doctorate in theoretical elementary particle physics. In the same year, he was selected to join the Royal Society as they recognized his math models to calculate quantum particle paths.

    Physicist turned Minister

    Polkinghorne surprised his friends and colleagues when he left the field of science and began studying Theological studies. In 1982 he received his ordination and was active in the religious community, making it all the way to the president of Queen’s College in 1989. He retired from this position in 1996.

    Polkinghorne was the bridge to having thoughtful discussions regarding science and religion. His science and religion expertise brought up thoughtful ideas and meaningful conversations on how an intellectual-minded person can also be a Christian. In his first book, “The Way the World Is,” he goes in-depth on how science and religion can coexist. He also went on to publish 5 other books to bridge the gap between science and religion further.
