Letter One
Charlie starts writing to his "friend." He tells the story how his friend Michael committed suicide. He also tells how his father hit him one time and promised to never do it again. He starts his freshman year tomorrow and is very scared and nervous. -

Letter Two
Charlie was getting picked on and defended himself like his older brother always said to, "go for the knees, throat, and eyes." After the fight all the kids looked at him weird because they didn't know he could fight. His brother is now a football player at Penn State. His mom is hoping Charlie gets an academic scholarship because there isn't enough money for Charlie and his older sister to both go to college. -
Letter Three
Charlie's advanced English Teacher gave him the book To Kill A Mockingbird. He got to see his brother on television play football at Penn State. He's confused because he misses his brother a lot, but they were never all that close. -
Letter Four
His favorite book of all time is now To Kill A Mockingbird. Bill gave him another book to read and wants Charlie to write an essay on To Kill A Mockingbird. His sister got a new boyfriend and they started arguing in front of Charlie. Charlie's sister said to her boyfriend, "You see. Even Charlie stood up to his bully." Her boyfriend hit her for that remark. He stood up to his bully. His sister told Charlie not to say anything to anyone about it. Her boyfriend has not hit her again. -
Letter Five
Charlie is in shop class. There is a guy called "Nothing." His real name is Patrick. He simply said to everyone, "Listen, you either call me Patrick, or you call me nothing." Everyone calls him Nothing now. -
Letter Six
Bill gave Charlie a C on his essay for To Kill A Mockingbird. He talks about how women are always gossiping. He rememberd how his Aunt Helen would always babysit him, his brother, and sister. They would stay up and watch Saturday Night Live. Him and his family always watched MASH, and when the final episode came on, he rememberd his mother, brother, and sister crying. He followed his dad into the kitchen and saw him crying. His dad told him that it would be there little secret. -
Letter Seven
Charlie went to a football game at his school. That's where he met Patrick and Sam. They were seniors and were very interested in Charlie. Charlie thought they were dating, but apparently they are step-brother and sister. Charlie is starting to develop a crush on Sam. -
Letter Eight
Patrick explains to Charlie how girls want to be treated, and answered Charlie's questions. Charlie ends up telling Bill about his sisters boyfriend and how he hit her before. When Charlie comes home from school, his sister was on the couch, crying. His parents were somewhat yelling at her. They forbid her to see the boy again. Her dad went to the boy's house and talked to his parents. Charlie's sister was VERY mad at him and told Charlie he was a freak. -
Letter Nine
When Charlie's dad went to the boys' house, the boy's mother was very mad, but the father kept quiet. -
Letter Ten
Bill gave Charlie another book called Peter Pan. Patrick and Sam invited him to go to a party with them, he agreed. He talked about how his brother and sister had a party when their parents went to Ohio. At the party, Charlie ate a brownie, and he ended up high. That is when he gets called a wallflower. "You see things. You keep quiet about them. And you understand." They go driving through a tunnel, and that is the moment when they feel infinite. -
Letter Eleven
Brad and Patrick are secretly dating. Charlie walked in on them and promised not to tell anyone. Brad got really drunk at another party. His parents were called, so his parents and Patrick carried Brad to the car. Brad kept saying that he was so wasted at the party and he didn't remember anything. Brad ended up going to rehab for drug and alcohol problems. -
Letter Twelve
Bill gave Charlie a B on his paper on Peter Pan. Patrick and Sam to Charlie to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Charlie has finally realized that he loves Sam. The problem is that Sam is a senior and has an older boyfriend named Craig. Charlie saw his sister and her boyfriend at the dance. (the boyfriend she's not supposed to be with.) He's not going to tell anyone this time. -
Letter Thirteen
In Science class, Charlie did an experiment on how tempted rats would be to get food while being shocked with electricity. -
Letter Fourteen
Charlie finds out his brother has a girlfriend. Apparently, one player on his brother's football team is as "dumb as a post" He talks about how beautiful his mom is in old pictures, and how handsome is dad is in old pictures. He hopes his kids will say that about him someday. -
Letter Fifteen
Charlie has a memory about him and Michael. Michael's parents got divorced. Charlie's mom says that only seventy percent of marriages stay together after they lose a child. -
Letter Sixteen
Charlie and his family go to Ohio to visit family for Thanksgiving. They watch an old football game in the VCR of his brother playing football for Penn State. All his cousin's were very jealous because Charlie's brother did something with his life, and they didn't. His mother was worried he would get hurt, even if she already saw the game. His grandfather was crying happy tears. -
Letter Seventeen
Charlie is doing Secret Santa. He got Patrick. The first present he is going to give Patrick is a mix-tape of all his favorite songs. In the last month, Charlie has read The Great Gatsby and A Seperate Peace. He loves all the books Bill gives him. -
Letter Eighteen
Patrick loved the mix-tape Charlie made him. -
Letter Nineteen
He is now reading The Mayor of Castro Street. He is going to give it to Patrick because it has meaning for Patrick. -
Letter Twenty
Charlie goes to Sam and Patrick's house to meet their parents. Everyone exchanged the last Secret Santa presents. Sam gave Charlie his first kiss. -
Letter Twenty-One
Patrick and Sam left for the Grand Canyon with their family. Charlie tells us that he is glad his birthday and Christmas are so close together because he can already feel himself going to a bad place. He was bron on December 24. Him and his family are going to his dad's family's house for Christmas. Bill gave him a book to read over Christmas Break called The Catcher in the Rye. -
Letter Twenty-Two
Charlie, his mom, and his sister go Christmas shopping. His sister was getting really irritated with Charlie because he was taking so long trying to figure out what to get their dad. His brother and sister get in an arguement in the car. His dad has Charlie get in the front seat and drive to Ohio, while he is in the backseat. Charlie tells how bad is dad's life was when he was younger. -
Letter Twenty-Three
He's now back home. On the way back, they went and stopped at Aunt Helen's grave. His Aunt Helen died on Chirstmas, going to get Charlie a birthday present. Charlie misses her a lot. -
Letter Twenty-Four
Charlie went to go see his Aunt Helen's grave alone for the first time. -
Letter Twenty-Five
Charlie talks about Bob's New Years Eve Party and what went on at it. -
Letter Twenty-Six
Charlie went to drop the last letter at the post office, and watched the car goes by. The next morning the police found him laying in the snow, pale and blue. They took him to the hospital for a little while, then went back home with his parents. He hoped his sister rememberd to record his brother's football game, since he missed it. Charlie made up his mind that he would never take LSD again. -
Letter Twenty-Seven
Charlie has his first cigarette. Bill thought Charlie's The Catcher In The Rye essay was the best one yet. Charlie is now up to ten cigarettes a day. -
Letter Twenty-Eight
Charlie has started going to a psychiatrist. Charlie, Patrick, Sam, Bob, and Craig went to the Big Boy (restaurant) and discussed a lot of things about the government. -
Letter Twenty-Nine
Charlie read On The Road. Bill didn't have him write an essay because he said it was "a reward." Bill gave him another book called Naked Lunch. Charlie went downstairs and watched TV with his sister until she told him to go away, then he went to help his mom in the kitchen. He dropped the casserole, so he went to watch the hockey game with his dad. His dad told him to go to his room because he was asking too many questions, so he went to read his book because he had nothing else to do. -
Letter Thirty
Charlie was asked to the Sadie Hawkin's dance by Mary Elizabeth. Craig didn't show up to do his part in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, so Charlie had to fill in for him, even if he didn't fit the part. Charlie finished Naked Lunch. -
Letter Thirty-One
Sam gives Charlie advice on how to treat Mary Elizabeth at the Sadie Hawkin's Dance. Charlie was hoping Sam would be jealous, but she wasn't. Charlie wishes he could stop loving Sam. -
Letter Thirty-Two
Charlie went to the Sadie Hawkin's Dance with Mary Elizabeth. Charlie came home and saw his sister crying in the basement. He asked her what was wrong, and she told him she was pregnant, and her boyfriend didn't think it was his, so he broke up with her. -
Letter Thirty-Three
Charlie had to take his sister to the clinic to get an abortion because she didn't want her parents to find out. He went out to the car to wait for her, and she caught him smoking. She promised not to tell their parents because he said if she did, he would tell about the pregnancy. Once they got home, they were questioned by their parents about where they were all day, and they just said they went walking around the mall. After dinner, Charlie went upstairs and started reading Walden. -
Lettter Thirty-Four
Mary Elizabeth and Charlie went on another date and went back to her house for a little bit. -
Letter Thirty-Five
Charlie talks about how Mary Elizabeth is really talkative and he can only give one word answers when she's asking him questions. -
Letter Thirty-Six
Everyone went to Craig's apartment to hang out, Charlie ended up kissing Sam when he was told to kiss the most beautiful girl in the room. Mary Elizabeth ran out crying, Sam went after her. Patrick got Charlie out before anthing else could happen. -
Letter Thirty-Seven
No one has talked to Charlie since that night. He's reading Hamlet, and it's helping him get through everything since it's keeping his mind off of it. Charlie found out his brother and his girlfriend broke up. Since Charlie has been going through a lot, he has been smoking marijuana since that night. -
Letter Thirty-Eight
Charlie still hasn't talked to anyone. He's slowly getting deeper and deeper into depression. -
Letter Thirty-Nine
Charlie goes back to Bob to get more drugs. He tells Charlie the proper way of lighting a cigarette around other people and if he's alone. Brad's dad caught Patrick and Brad together and beat Brad REALLY bad. Brad didn't go to school for a few weeks, and when he came back he ignored Patrick. Charlie went to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but left before anyone could see him. Charlie started reading The Stranger that Bill gave him. -
Letter Forty
Brad said some things to Patrick, and Patrick punched him. The whole football team, including Brad, ganged up on Patrick and started hitting him. Charlie got involved and defended Patrick. Patrick was suspended for a week since he started the fight. Brad and Charlie got detention for a month. Brad didn't want any of it to happen in the first place, he just had to act that way, so no one would find out about him and Patrick. Sam talked to Charlie and thanked him for defending Patrick. -
Letter Forty-One
Charlie and Patrick have been spending a lot of time together because they can talk things out with each other. They go to a golf course and lay in the grass, drank red wine, and told stories of other people that use to go to the high school. Charlie got his stories from his brother. -
Letter Forty-Two
Charlie and Patrick went to a park. Patrick saw Brad there with another guy. On the way home, Patrick threw the bottle of red wine out the window. When he pulled into Charlie's driveway, he thanked him for being a great friend. -
Letter Forty-Three
Bill stopped giving Charlie books to read, instead he had him watch movies and write essays on them. He's watched: The Graduate, Harold & Maude, My Life As A Dog, Dead Poets Society, and The Unbelieveable Truth. Patrick has stopped drinking since the night he saw Brad with another guy. -
Letter Forty-Four
Charlie has been reading The Fountainhead for the past few days. -
Letter Forty-Five
Charlie's sister and all the other seniors are planning their senior prank. They are going to fill the school swimming pool with six thousand packets of grape Kool-Aid. Charlie is sad and excited for all of his friends, since they are all going to college. He's going to miss them a lot. -
Letter Forty-Six
Everyone went back to Craig's apartment after the final show of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Everyone had a good time. Charlie's brother is coming home for their sister's graduation. -
Letter Forty-Seven
Tonight was prom night, and Charlie hoped everyone had fun, was safe, and got a lot of good pictures. -
Letter Forty-Eight
Charlie tells what his two finals were about that day, and the next two finals the next day. He doesn't understand why they have two more days of school even after finals are over. -
Letter Forty-Nine
Craig and Sam broke up because he was cheating on her from the start of their relationship. Bill tells Charlie that he is the best student he has ever had during his teaching career, and Charlie tells Bill that he is the best teacher he has ever had. -
Letter Fifty
Charlie's brother comes home. Their whole family came to the graduation. Charlie's grandpa was being rude and quite loud before the graduates came onto the football field. Charlie's brother had to make a deal with his grandpa, that if he didn't be quiet he would take him back home and he would have to miss his granddaughter's speech. His grandpa was very quiet after that. As his sister was giving her speech, they were all crying happy tears. -
Letter Fifty-One
Charlie and Sam were kissing, and that lead to other things. Charlie stopped her, and went to sleep on the couch after Sam told him too because she felt bad. He had a dream that his Aunt Helen was doing the things Sam was doing to him. He feels like that dream was real. -
Letter Fifty-Two (Epilogue)
Charlie's been in the hospital for two months. He finally realized that his dream was true. When it happened he was too young to realize what was happening and didn't think anything of it. He still loves his Aunt Helen no matter what. He misses her a lot. Tomorrow is his first day of Sophomore Year, and he isn't nervous at all. The end.
