Living in the "Community"
Jonas as well as his sister Lily, his mom an his dad live in the "Community". They all live together in their families unit. -
Plane flies over the "Community"
A pilot flying an airplane over the "Community" gets chastised. He was chastised because there is no flying over the "Community". The "Community" has vey strict rules. Jonas was vey scared and worried what the plane was doing in the "Community". He rushed back home worried. -
Very strict rules
The "Community has very srict rules e.g. there is no sharing of bikes. Sometimes Jonas (the main character) disobeys the smaller rules. It is not as much of a big deal, but the announcer always reminds everyone to follow the rule broken previously. Some of the rules in the "Community" are unfair. -
Comittee of elders
In the community there is a comittee of elders. The comittee of elders makes all the decisions for the community. The comittee of elders also make all the rules, Essentialy the comittee of elders is it's own oligarchy (total control over everything by a group of people). -
Pale Eyes
Jonas has pale eyes just like Gabriel. Gabriel is a one. Jonas is an eleven right now. he is going to be a 12 in december -
Reciever of Memory
Jonas is FINALLY getting to learn what job he will be assigned or selected. He is listening to the numbers before him, when it comes to he job right before him he is nervous (he is number 19). For some reason they skipped his numer. Why?...if....but? Questions surrounded him. Thankfully at the end they announced Jonas was not skipped he is now the new reciever of memory. He was selected! Jonas didn't know what the "assignment was, although he did know that he was getting a very honoured job. -
Jonas learns about colours
Jonas was recieving many memories from the giver. Some good, some painful. Jonas had just recieved one unforgetable memory though. It was colour. In the "community" there is no colour. When he could see little glimpses of colour he would try to focus on it. Jonas was very happy to learn about colour. -
Playing War
Jonas was griefing over the memory he saw about war, and kids having to fight in war. When he saw Aher, Fiona and his other friends playing war he was very upset, so he decided to tell them to stop playing war. Jonas knew they weren't aware of how terrible war really was. He tried to forgive him but he was very hurt emotionaly by what they were doing. -
The Big Decision
Jonas and the Giver both knew they're communiy needed change and needed to know some of the memories they knew. That would just be a dream if they didn't do something. Jonas and the Giver decided make a plan. Jonas would leave the community and go to a place where all the happy, sad and weird memories were. He needed a new home. The Giver would not Join him. -
The Givers Daughter
The Giver just told Jonas why he wouldn't join him on his quest to find a new home. The Giver wanted to find his daughter, Rosemary. Could this be the Rosemary who applied for release? Would the Giver ask to be released? What would happen? All Jonas knew was that he would miss the Giver so, so much. -
Gabe going with Jonas
When Jonas heard his father say that he would take Gabe for release Jonas knew he needed to take Gabe with him. To keep him alive and to keep him happy. -
Jonas and Gabes Successful Journey
Jonas and Gabe made it, even though they were starving and Joans had very little memory left they made it. Now they could both start a new life. No more everything the same. They were free!
