In 1996 he concluded a record setting run in the amateur ranks by capturing his ninth AMA Amateur Championship. At the prestigious Loretta Lynn's Dude Ranch. He turned pro this year too. -

In 1997 he earned a few Eastern Region 125 Supercross race wins. He also dominated the 125 National Motocross Championship -
Moving up
In 1999 he moved up to the 250 supercross and was a top contender. -

By 2001 Ricky Carmichael had four National Championships and a 125 East Supercross title. He moved up to the 250 class in 1999 -

He got married and had a perfect motocross season winning every race. -
Injury
Ricky missed the supercross season to rehabilitate his knee. -
