    Disobeys the Lord (Refusal)

The Lord called Jonah to go and tell the people of Nineveh to repent or He would destroy their city. Jonah fled by ship in the opposite direction hoping to escape his prophetic calling.
God put a wrench in Jonah's escape plan by creating a giant storm to punish him for his disobedience.

Jonah gets eaten by fish (Punishment)

After the storm hit the sailors on the ship threw Jonah overboard.
God sent a huge fish to swallow him. He was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights.

    Prayer (Remorse)

As Jonah sat in the fish's stomach he prayed to God for forgiveness. God forgave his sins, even though Jonah did not necessarily deserve it, and the fish threw him up on the shore of Nineveh.

    God's Lesson

God erased their sins but Jonah was angry after God spared Nineveh because he believed they did not deserve it. God made a plant that made Jonah really happy but the plant's death left Jonah distraught. God asked him a question to show His view: Why shouldn't I show compassion for Ninevites when you show compassion for only a plant.
