Climbing the Education Ladder
Ernest received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Philosophy from the College of the City of New York. Two years later in 1925, he received his Masters Degree in Philosophy from Columbia University. Six years later, in 1931, he received a PHD in Philosophy from Columbia University. In doing so he also taught Physics in New York Public Schools between 1923 and 1929, eventually leading him to become a Philosophy professor at Columbia university from 1930 to 1931. -

He wrote one of the most influential textbooks with his mentor, Morris R. Cohen, "An Introduction to Logic and Scientific Method". going in depth to illustrate the function of logical principles in scientific method in the natural and social sciences and in law and history. -

Serving as editor of the Journal of Philosophy, he proves his worthiness in the field of philosophy, he made sure of it by making many noteworthy contributions in the fields of geometry, quantum mechanics, and the status of reductive and inductive theories of science. Being a representative of Logical Empiricism with some pragmatistic and naturalist leanings. -

Great Works
Well deserving of the title, "Leading American Philosopher of Science", Ernest Nagel was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1954-1962. His masterpiece was the Structure of Science Problems in the Logic of Scientific Explanation in the meantime in 1961. -

Death of Ernest Nagel
In New York, passed away leaving behind two sons and a wife. Not only did he live through his great works and influence left behind, but his sons carried the torch. The eldest Alexander Nagel became a professor of Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin and his other son, Sydney Nagel became a professor of physics at the University of Chicago. -
