Erik Erikson's Theories of Development Timeline

  • John's Infancy of Psychosocial Development

    John's Infancy of Psychosocial Development
John is in his trust V.S. mistrust stage of development. Within this stage he will cry if he needs something. He cries when he's hungry, when he wants attention and any other needs. John's mom always tends to his needs as she knows that this stage is an important part of his development as neglect can affect John's ability to communicate, control their emotions and as well as their capability to learn a language. This builds trust with the mother rather than mistrust as he's not neglected.
  • John's Preschool of Psychosocial of Development

John's Preschool of Psychosocial of Development
John is now 4 years old and is in the initiative V.S. guilt stage. He is more conscientious of the world around him. John is able to now understand what praise and punishment is for certain behaviors and is able to take initiative as well as feel guilt. John is praised often when he is able to solve math problems and continues to take initiative to solve more problems. John is however punished when he takes initiative to teach peers in preschool by his teacher and develops a sense of guilt.
  • John's Adolescence of Psychosocial Development

    John's Adolescence of Psychosocial Development
John is now 13 years old and is in the stage of identity V.S. role confusion stage. John is a little confused about his role and identity in the world. He understands that there are expectations about the way he dresses from his peers. John also knows that he wants to play baseball and is encouraged by his peers as well as his mother. The identity of being someone who plays sports grows stronger due to the encouragement. Dad does want him to play, which creates a conflict and role confusion.
