Her contributions to science were resurrected only recently, but many new biographies* attest to the fascination of Babbage's "Enchantress of Numbers."
  • Developed the world's first algorithm

Ada's colleague, mathematician Charles Babbage, invented a calculator named "Difference Engine". Together with a military engineer named Luigi Menabrea, they worked on improving the machine. In 1843, Ada had developed guidelines for how the machine could be programmed with code to calculate complex formulas. The first algorithm ever performed by a machine, and computer programming, was born. It was a calculation around the Bernoulli, which is still used today in many algorithms.

  • The project

In 1943, von Neumann started working on the Manhattan Project, where he handled the immense calculations required for development of an atomic bomb. He became interested in using machines for the calculation of numbers and the resolution of particular mathematical issues. His interest in computers developed. His primary area of interest, however, centered on game theory: the study of the struggle between two opponents seeking to arrive at two different objectives, each wishing to beat the other.
