    United Nations
    The United Nations has 193 countries in it like the U.S., England, France, Russia, and China. The UN is a peace keeping organization that was put together after WWII just like the League of Nations for WWI. The nations were first used in 1945 at the Yalta Conference. This event was important to history because they worked to solve disputes between other countries and problems within the UN. The UN impacted politics because the 193 countries are more united and helps protect the people in them.
  • Elvis Presley

    Elvis Presley
    Elvis Presley was the King of Rock 'N Roll. He was a famous singer that was drafted by the Army in 1952. Elvis lived in Graceland Memphis, TN. Elvis had 94 gold singles, 40 gold albums, and starred in 33 films. Presley impacted society because he was one of the biggest influences on pop culture and rock 'n roll. He also gave $1,000 to charities and he paid off hospital bills, bought houses, supported families, and paid off debts for his family, friends, and complete strangers.

    Truman Doctrine/Marshall Plan
    The Truman Doctrine was the U.S. Congress asking Greece and Turkey to stop communism spreading there for $400 million in military in March of 1947. The Marshall Plan was set up by George Marshall. He planed to give 12 billion in aid to rebuild western Europe from WWII in April of 1948. These were important because it helped us and other countries after WWII. They impacted society because now all the countries are closer and don't have communism.

    Jackie Robinson
    Jackie Robinson was the first African American player in the MLB in 1947. Branch Rickey chose him to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers after seeing him play for the Negro Leagues. This was important because more African Americans were getting the rights that they deserved, and Robinson deserved to be in the MLB's. Jackie impacted society because his number, 42, has been retired by every single team in the MLB. April 15th is the day people celebrate Jackie Robinson.

    Joe McCarthy
    Joe McCarthy was a Senator from WI. In 1953, he announced that he had a list of 57 State Department employees in 57 States that were Communists. Later in 1954, he claimed that there were communist in the Army. However, he could never prove that he ever had any list. This is important because fear was spread and peoples lives where ruined. Joe McCarthy impacted society because he spread fear and suspicion of Communism across the nation recreating the Red Scare.
  • JFK Assassination

    JFK Assassination
    JFK was the youngest president elected in the U.S. Kennedy was elected president in 1960. He passed laws to help millions of people in poverty. On November 22, 1963 in Dallas TX, JFK stayed an extra day to campaign for reelection. During a parade, Lee Harvey Oswald shot from a Textbook Warehouse and hit JFK in the head. He died at 2:00 pm at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. This impacted society because a new president was in office and everyone was scared that he was killed and Lee is still alive.

    Nixon/Watergate
    Nixon was the president of the U.S. during 1968-1974. He was president when the Watergate scandal occurred on June 17, 1972, a burglary in D.C. where 5 men broke into the D.H.. They were caught because the door was left open. Nixon assured everyone he wasn't evolved, but tapes were found that Nixon knew about the burglary. Everyone found out the truth, Nixon got impeached in July 1974, he was the 1st to ever quit office. This impacted society because it changed how people trusted presidents.

    Space Shuttle Challenger
    On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger blasted off of Earth on a journey with its first civilian passenger, Christa McAuliffe, a school teacher. NASA wanted to start the public interest again, so in Cape Canaveral, FL at 11:39 am the Challenger took off. After 59 sec black smoke showed, at 74 sec it turned into flames. The shuttle crumbled over the ocean with no survivors. It impacted society because millions of people watched, including the teachers class, to see the 7 astronauts.

    Bill Clinton
    Bill Clinton was president of the US during 1992-2000. He was the second president to be put on trial, but he stayed in office. He also sent 20,000 troops to Bosnia. Clinton has won 2 Grammy awards and on a school trip, he got to shake the hand of JFK before he was killed. Bill Clinton impacted politics because he sent 20,000 troops to Bosnia and helped the health care get reformed.
  • George W. Bush

    George W. Bush
    Bush was President during 2000-2008. Before his election, he was the Governor of TX. Bush started the War on Terror against IQ and AF. He also gave Americans a tax relief even though that put the U.S. in dept again. One of his more important acts passed is the No Child Left Behind, kids have to be tested so they could get the help they need. Bush was also the President that took the most days out of office. His impacted society because of how he acted during 9/11 and everything he did to help.
  • Hurricane Katrina

    Hurricane Katrina
    On August 29, 2005, a costliest U.S. hurricanes caused catastrophic flooding in New Orleans due to a levee failure. The hurricane is known as Hurricane Katrina, and it was a category 5 in the water, and a 3 when it hit land. The waves were 11.8 feet high and made 80% of the city was flooded. The winds were horrible at a 175 mph speed. The damage estimates were $81 billion and 150,000 homes were destroyed and 900 churches.The impact is how the city's were destroyed and so many lives were lost.

    Barack Obama Inauguration
    In DC on Tuesday January 20th, 2009, Obama was Inaugurated. This was one of the most observed global events in history. He took his oath of office from Chief Justice John Roberts while Michelle was holding the Bible that was used for Lincolns inauguration. Their were 1 million attendees and millions watching on TVs or the internet. Obama's inauguration impacted society because he was the First African American to become the President of the U.S.
