    The Cold War involved the Soviet Union and the U.S. A Cold War is a state of tension between two countries without actual fighting. There was nine countries from the Soviet Satellites that were involved. In Russia of 1945-1939. This was important because it cause two countries to fight. Also, it impacted society because it caused hate to one another and was a verbal war than actual fighting.

    Truman Doctrine/Marshall Plan
    Truman Doctrine was held by Truman. However, Truman put $400 million in military and for Greece and Turkey too. In the United States in March 1947. It was important because it stopped communism from spreading there. the Marshall Plan was set by George Marshall. In addition, he put $12 billion dollars in aid and to rebuild Western Europe from WWII. The plan took place on April 1, 1948. Truman Doctrine/Marshall Plan impacted economy because money was given to military and Britain.

    In 1948 the United States had less than 17,000 TVs. However, the end of 1950 Americans had an estimate of 50,000 sets. People would call the TV ¨idiot box¨ or ¨Boob tube¨. In addition, the impact of TV on students concerned the school educators because they thought they would fall back on work and watch their shows instead. It was important because in 1954 families started eating in front of their television. The TV age impacted society because it was an invention that gathered their attention.

    Joseph McCarthy was a Senator from Wisconsin. He accused workers and people of being communists. Joseph could never prove his claim of the workers being communists. In Wisconsin of 1953. It was important because many people were fired and afraid of standing up for the accused works of being communist. The 57 state department employees were communists. Joseph McCarthy impacted politics because his accusations got attention. For instance, he spread fear and suspicion of Communism (Red Scare).

    Rosa Parks
    Rosa Parks was born in 1913 in Alabama and died in October 2005. In addition, she was African American that was proving her rights. She refused to surrender her bus seat to a white passenger in Alabama. On December 1,1955 in Alabama. Also, she joined the NAACP and wrote her own book. It was important because it had efforts to end segregation and Jim Crow Laws and buses integrated a year after boycotting. Rosa Parks impacted society because both races were allowed to sit on the bus together.

    Martin Luther King was a civil rights activist. Martin was assassinated after an event from supporting black sanitation workers on strike.
  • Robert F. Kennedy Assassination

    Robert F. Kennedy and Sirlan Sirlan was involved.The president was assassinated. There was a man that was angry at Kennedy for supporting Israels military policies. On June 4, 1968 in Los Angeles, California at the Ambassador Hotel. He died on June 6th at age 42. It was important because it led to Secret Service protection for all future major presidential candidates. Robert F. Kennedy's assassination impacted politics because another President was assassinated and another was put in his place.

    The Nixon/Watergate involved Richard Nixon. It was a burglary with 5 men that broke into the Democratic HQ. Nixon was investigated because he had knew about it. On June 17, 1972 in Washington D.C. This was important because the President had an input on the burglary and was caught. Nixon/Watergate impacted politics because he first President to be impeached and resigned out of office August 1974. He was secretly taped recorded in his own office and admitted and soon had to resign form office.

    George H.W. Bush was a Reagan's Vice President. He was in office from 1988-1992 and a Republican. Also, he was Vice President from Texas. The impact was the Persian Gulf War, he wanted to prevent Iraq from spreading into the Middle East. It was important because Americans with disabilities Act passed and the Berlin Wall fell. George H.W. Bush impacted politics because of his authority in government as the President he oversaw everything that happen and made decisions for the U.S. and others.

    Bill Clinton was a Democrat President of the United States. He had a 8 yr term from1992-2000. Also, he was the Governor of Arkansas. This was important because Health Care reform and sending 20,000 troops to Bosnia. Bill signed a test ban Treaty for nukes and was the 2nd President put on trial, stayed in office. For instance, one big event was lowering the deficit. Bill Clinton impacted politics because he was put on trial and lowering deficit which affected a lot of people.

    Hurricane Katrina
    This was the most costly U.S. hurricane and was category 5(157mph wind). Also, it caused a catastrophic flooding in New Orleans. The city was 80% flooded, total damage of $81 billion, 150,000 homes destroyed, and 900+ churches. On Aug. 29, 2005 in New Orleans. It was important because the levee failure in New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina impacted economy because of the donations that were given after the hurricane. Kuwait made the largest pledge of $500 million and 70 countries pledged donations.

    Barack Obama the President of the U.S. had his first inauguration. This was on of the most observed global events in history. Obama took the oath of office from Chief Justice John Roberts. On Tues. Jan. 20th, 2009 in Washington D.C. was his inauguration. Over 1 million attendees with many millions of others watched on their TV or the internet. Barack Obama´s Inauguration impacted politics. He was the first African American President of the United States and people were interested in him. .
